I saw this on Facebook and thought it a good summary, a lot of people are saying that it was Brexit that destroyed Corbyns labour, I believe that only part of the issue.

"One of the best takes I’ve read on why Corbyn was always going to lose! From Pete North and he is oop Norff, in Bradford.

“If you believe working class people voted Tory because they're hapless dupes with no agency, taken in by the tabloid press, and now the Tories will "punish the poor" and sell off the NHS to Donald Trump, it's you who's taken in by carefully crafted propaganda messages. You're the gullible one. They played right into your  conceited belief that you are smarter and morally superior than the rest of us.

When voters looked at Corbyn's Labour they saw a party that had abandoned them in favour of well off middle class progressives and adolescents too young to remember the stagnation of socialism. A predatory party playing on the ignorance of the young and the greed of the self-entitled. That is an affront to the British work ethic and innate sense of fairness.

Labour lost because they deserved to lose.

Britain was never going to vote for a far left prospectus because we are not a nation of serfs waiting to be rescued by our betters and we aren't so easily bribed with our own money.

The left will continue to lose elections for as long as they hold ordinary people in contempt and patronise them, believing they are entitled to the votes of the working class.

To say working class Tory voters are turkeys voting for Christmas is the very essence of that losing arrogance. Brits aren't stupid. They know free stuff from the government comes with a price tag. If you haven't worked that out, you're the gullible one. Get over yourself.”

Similar sentiments to those expressed by Jess Phillips when she was interviewed about a possible leadership bid. She said the Labour needs to take a long hard look at itself, to stop patronising voters and not talk down to them. She even went on to say the Labour Party has been 'self indulgent' and needs the country to be a bit 'superior' towards the Labour Party for a while! Less of London moneyed Corbynites coming up to tell them what to think and more of listening to what they already think

That seems pretty accurate to me! The hard left, Trots, Marxists etc, despise ordinary people who are not political, and are even more contemptuous of those who don’t agree with their extremist views!

We'll let you off, I often do this when you realise your 4 or 5 pages behind.

Graham it was a wonderful evening, just a shame I was at work the next day!

It was like watching a great sporting,  it was around 4am when I finally went to bed, I also have a different body clock working shifts but I just couldn't turn it off watching places turn blue that had always been red.

Stephen Kinnock comes across as a nice bloke but.

I didn't think so,  best comment was someone saying his dad should have stood instead of Corbyn.

If Corbyn and momentum have real influence burgon  will be right up with the front runners. He is a real obnoxious left wing reptile and he has been given a lot of high profile media gigs. Also high up in shadow cabinet.

He is definitely my choice and I have just had a little tipple on him at 80/1 with skybet. If you like a gamble chaps check him out and get your money on at those generous odds.

The maths of this general election is very odd. In 2005, Labour won in another landslide. 355 out of 646 seats. This time round they have 152 fewer seats - but their share of the vote is down only 3%. By contrast, the tories got 49 more seats this time round compared to 2017, but their share of the vote only increased by 1.2% to 44.6%.

Not sure what that says, but it's a thing, for sure!

Corby has decided he sort of won the election really....

Best one I heard was a Labour female saying they lost because Corbyn & Co had offered a 'mainly social democratic' manifesto and not the proper 'radical reforming socialism' manifesto that people wanted!

Quite frightening really how anyone can genuinely think that.

Until JC can accept his part in the poor result, he should avoid commenting!

He and his party's campaign was just NOT TRUSTED by enough voters, look at how the "RED WALL" of traditional Labour seats COLLAPSED.

THe Party has but 5 years to address the situation, we as a country need a good oposition to keep the Government honest and to hold them to account.

At the moment Boris and Co have a clear run.

He should be sectioned under the Mental Health Act!

He's right about one thing , and that's how far trust has broken down in politics . Over the last couple of years especially  , the politicians of all all parties have shown themselves to be little more than lying cheating scoundrels, and many of them seem to be on the very edge of lunacy , it's been difficult to find a shred of integrity in any of them . Myself, like many millions of other voters , didn't vote for johnson by choice , we were just scared to death of Corbyn.  I read something over on sd , trying to choose a political side in this year's general election , was like looking into a bucket of ***** , and trying to choose the one that was least smelly.

One glimmer of hope , is that Boris Johnson has recognised and acknowledged this , we can only hope that he remembers it as the country moves into our uncertain future.

True, but the underlying thing for me was this difference;

  • I believe Johnson fundamentally likes and wishes to retain this country much as it has been with its traditions and history, flawed as they may be - and that is how many of us like it
  • Corbyn on the other hand hates most of what this country stands for and its traditions, and history - and wants to 'radically reform' it.

That was a decider for many I think
