Tool guidance

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me the difference between a veiner and a v parting tool? I have been unsuccessful in trying to locate a dembart veiner (seems to be the tool to use) but keep coming across V parting tools from companies such as Robert Sorby and Pfeil in sizes down to 1mm. I have some  intricate curved checkering edges to clean up/recut and want to get the right tool for the job. Any advice or pointers gentlemen?

As JJsDad said above, Peter Dyson is your man. They do the whole range of checkering tools.

Unless you know the exact lines per inch of your checkering, it sounds as though you just need a single cutting head and I think that they do one specially for tight curves etc.

Unfortunately, Peter Dyson has been out of stock of the Dembart veiner for some time now and an email to him regarding the item was not answered. Hence my looking elsewhere.

just checked Blackley and son, same story there it appears, maybe Dembart have ceased trading?

I have now conversed with Walt McVey at Dembartco who assured me that a shipment was on its way to Peter Dyson. Apparently a reduced shipment due to domestic demand for the products. I emailed Peter Dyson but am not sure if it worked as it keeps bouncing back to the security Captcha. I will phone on Monday and hopefully reserve one of these "rare" tools. Dembartco will ship to the UK but shipping/customs charges could be high

Update

after speaking on the phone it seems that there is a gremlin in Dysons email system so they are not getting stuff forwarded from their website. Hopefully the consignment will arrive shortly, C&E permitting.

Except for the fact that I will then have another sharp implement to slip and slide over my work and cut myself with 😁

managed to stab myself in the palm of my hand with a  screwdriver yesterday getting the old banger ready for MOT (silent prayer )
