Dead fox

Just been for a walk round one of the fields and there was a dead fox floating in the pond. I dragged it out and there was no sign of a gunshot, but it's face had been half eaten.

This begs 2 questions. If it was dead and had been eaten, how did it get in the pond? Or, if it drowned in the pond, how did it get eaten, and by what?

Many years ago i came across a fox walking straight to us in broad daylight, to discover half its face missing. It was obviously in pain as the lips were gone and cheek all the way to the eye, nothing broken just skin/flesh missing. I assumed it had been hit/skimmed by a car and just wondered around for days blind as it was just skin and bone. Obviously dispatched on the spot. But could have easily slipped into a pond and drown

Possibly the fox had been shot in the face from close range then thrown in the pond.

Possibly, but this field is actually on my land. No-one else shoots here or has access without literally going past my living room window.

Yeah, they're pretty hardy. Glad you sorted it.

Don't suppose you have signal crayfish in the pond by any chance?

I think the piranhas ate them all. Seriously, I've never seen them, but good shout.

I know wolves predate on foxes. I blame wild justice rewilding 😂

Now you're being silly. The big cat ate all the wolves.

I am led to believe that some members of this planets humanity can actually enter another's land without passing any windows or opening any gates,

RS

I don’t know about that, how difficult would it be to keep a watch over the fish pond in the back garden of 117B Wales High Street, above the Chip Shop.?
