Sport for entertainment sake?

As a yoof I was privileged to watch the Barbarians v All Blacks in 73(iirc?) and was mesmerized by the skills that I was watching, especially as I had cuts and bruises and a fat lip from a school rugby match earlier in the day.

I'm now watching another great game and wondered how many other team sport does something similar? Footy, I have no idea as it is a mystery to me as the ball is the wrong shape, there is too much kicking and not enough hand/ball skills. Are there any other sports that have scratch teams v international teams just for the joy of the game?

It's a great game, isn't it? Not enough clinical stuff from the Barbars to get then back level. It's difficult to think of many similar things. One offs happen for charity in both football and cricket - rest of world vs a country - but nothing regular where it's purely sporting.

If you're talking about the game in Cardiff, I was offered a ticket by someone at school and turned it down to go shooting! Which turned out to be not one of my better decisions in life....

You know something, I don't have a Scooby where it was played, but who cares, Gareth's try will need something else to be beaten, even today there were some great tries but for it being 40 odd years ago...class.

There was something on the news today with a table tennis player doing a few behind the back shots, but not anything like games for sports sake
