Retsdon
Does anyone here wear them? Sometimes I browse the online outdoor clothing stores (not that I'm ever remotely likely to buy any of the stuff but I've little to do here for entertainment in Saudi) and breeks seem to be pretty popular these days. When I was younger and shooting and farming in the UK I never even thought about wearing them at all - it was trousers down the wellies - but they look quite elegant and with the right footwear, practical as well. So, like smoking a Danish pipe or shooting grouse, owning and wearing a pair of breeks is now entered onto my 'things I missed out on but if the opportunity ever arose I'd definitely be up for it' list. Smokersmith
I only wear them for driven shooting, although I did have a very light pair I used to wear when fowling in early season .. the long socked foot is easier to get in and out of waders! Walker570
I wear breeks or plus fours on every shoot day. Firstly because they are very practical. If my socks get wet in the morning I can quickly change them for dry ones. Made of wool even if the breeks/plus fours get wet they still keep me warm. Secondly because they do look smart in my opinion and are traditonally worn. Had a gun turn up at breakfast prior to a shoot once in full cammo and a baseball cap, did he stand out ?? Must be worn with good quality leather brogues until the shooting gets dirty then change to some wellies.... the leather wellies just look a bit too puffy for me. My wife has two pairs and they are excellent footwear....but for women in my view.

panoma1
Yep always on driven days, and walked up grouse, with Meindl boots and gaiters! Practical, comfortable and traditional!
adzyvilla
Mine get an airing at the end of the season on the one or two beaters days I get invited to. Always an occasion to wear them, along with the matching vest and jacket. If I did more driven shooting I would wear them more, but I can't afford it. Dave at kelton
Yep unless the weather is really foul I wear for all shooting and picking up as part of a suit. Look smart and very practical with high leg leather boots and gaiters.

London Best
Wear breeks or plus fours for every shooting/loading/picking up day. IMO there is nothing worse than trousers tucked in wellies, so bloody uncomfortable.
kennett
Breeks with Meindels and gaiters for me when shooting or running my own day, moleskins or chinos if I'm beating.
welshwarrior
Wear them on game shoots driven or walked up.

Pushandpull
"Breeks" is a relatively modern term and garment. They have their uses. Plus fours with high boots such as Meindl Dovres do not look as neat but come into their own when you are going up and down serious hills as they allow an easy full knee bend. They also shed water from the overhang when it rains hard.

Plus 4s are 4 inches below the knee, plus 2s are 2 inches below the knee. Simples!
did i miss
Thanks for that where do breeks fit in then inbetween plus 4 and plus
TIGHTCHOKE
Breeks are just short trousers to allow the wearing of either leather boots or Wellington boots. The length is down to your leg length and build. They are the most comfortable piece of clothing for the countryside.

JohnfromUK
I use John Norris moleskin breeks. Ideally could be a fraction longer (and I'm not tall), but good value. I have some older tweed tailor made ones, but over 20 years, the waist size seems to have gradually shrunk a bit ....... Always wear them when shooting - and sometimes when fishing.
