No doubt that the climate is changing. I believe that this may be the ‘ natural cycle’ of things but we cannot doubt that human kind has seriously added the rapid increase it global warming. To doubt we have contributed to this is madness

Mankind has been on this planet for what in real terms is the merest blip on a time scale none of us can even contemplate. It is assumed the  planet has warmed up, cooled down, warmed up, cooled down, etc etc over millennia, and at one time most of its surface was covered in ice.

Scientists ‘discovered’ a hole in the ozone layer back in the ‘80’s and went on to claim it was caused by stinky Pete and his over indulgence with deodorants etc. Did they ‘discover’ this hole, or was it always there but they had only just created the technology which could read its fluctuations? At one point it was claimed it was healing over again, but now it is claimed as far as I know, that it is on track to heal by the year 2060 ( if I recall ) so conveniently far enough off  that very few of those scientists ( if any ) will be around to be queried on the matter.
If, in the speck of a particle of a particle of time that we have been on this planet, we have had such a detrimental effect on its weather systems, it’s climate and it’s evolution that we have changed them to the extent it is claimed, and with an ever increasing population, then we are all as a race, well and truly ******.

Only mankind could be so arrogant as to claim it is in control.
None of this means however, that I don’t believe we shouldn’t do all we can to make the most of the resources we have, to ensure they are used to their full potential. My generation is often accused of being the generation responsible for so called climate change/global warming. I think it’s worth reminding our accusers that if it wasn’t for the generations which went before this one, this generation may well still be rooting around in the dirt looking for vegetables and anything else to eat.
We are where we are; blaming others for the absolute comfort you live in and the standard of life you enjoy is simply crass and arrogantly ignorant by any standards. The generations before yours were the make do and mend society ( how many of you out there, or even your mothers, can darn socks? ) yours is the mass produced and throw away society.
Look to yourselves, but don’t **** down my back, tell me it’s raining and then tax me for the privilege. You’re insulting my intelligence.

What 'rapid increase'?

We were told back in the mid 2000s that New York would be under 3ft of water in 20 years, as there would be no polar ice left!

We have various scientists and associated cult followers saying we have 12 years.. Others say its already too late, and we are doomed!

Perhaps in another 10 years, they will be saying the same old things to a captive audience, maybe a hundred?

👍 This is it in a nut shell  also "The generations before yours were the make do and mend society" and still are in many cases.

Careful - if the Vegans get their way!!!

🙂 Believe me, anyone who can afford to be living a vegan lifestyle isn’t going to be giving up their comfortable existence anytime soon, whether or not the planet depends on it, let alone root around in the dirt for veg’ . 🙂

I recently happened to watch a travel show programme and part was set in Iceland [not the high street shop 😉]  there was a guided tour/walk thing featured and they were Kayaking on a glazier melt water lake. the guide seemed to be just that a "guide" he had been doing it for about 15 yrs he said the lake had increased dramatically over that time due to glazier melt. from memory 100's of times larger...... warming or a natural event ?

Similar to that, we went to Iceland and booked a afternoon on the glacier on snowmobiles.

When we got to the meeting it hut we were surrounded by black ash, the snow was about a quarter of a mile further up the mountain.

When I asked whey they didn't build the hut nearer (it was almost new) they said they did, only a couple of years before they were constantly surrounded by snow.

They had to produce their own snow for the slopes that year as they do in many resorts these days.

How it is happening may be up for debate, the fact it is happening isn't.

This can't be correct as stinky Pete wasn't even born in the eighties, he was born in 94 so you can't blame him for global warming.

Crikey. Is there a flat earth thread on here too?

Yeah, you’ll find it right up there with all the other conspiracy theories. Quite funny really, when you consider that some of those claiming we need to ‘ do something ‘ go to church each Sunday! Someone isn’t doing their job methinks. 🤔🙂

Take a look at the studies re the rapid shrinking of the Alaskan and Himalayan glaciers. Not good reading. The scariest thing is that this is being measured in ‘living memory’. Most climatic changes are measured over milenea but for these changes to be noted into our short life span is something else. As well as scientific study we now have witness testimony to back this up. Just my opinion but hey ho.

Quite happily insulting our intelligence and living off the coat tails of the effort of others?

Caught the rear end of a BBC programme last night sounds like all of the animals are under threat? Probably no mention of volcano emissions or aircraft flights?

We can be sure that as easy targets the plebs possibly living in the dark, eating grass with no heat this won't apply to the upper echelons who will still live 5 star?

Heard this the other day.

A LETTER FROM A CONSTITUENT ABOUT HOW HE ADVISED HIS TEENAGE DAUGHTER ON ‘CLIMATE CHANGE’
Dear Craig,
After our daughter of fifteen years of age was moved to tears by the speech of Greta Thunberg at the UN the other day, she became angry with our generation “who had been doing nothing for thirty years”
So, we decided to help her prevent what the girl on TV announced of “massive eradication and the disappearance of entire ecosystems”.
We are now committed to give our daughter a future again, by doing our part to help cool the planet four degrees.
From now on she will go to school on a bicycle, because driving her by car costs fuel, and fuel puts emissions into the atmosphere. Of course it will be winter soon and then she will want to go by bus, but cycling through the freezing builds resilience.
Of course, she is now asking for an electric bicycle, but we have shown her the devastation caused to the areas of the planet as a result of mining for the extraction of Lithium and other minerals used to make batteries for electric bicycles, so she will be pedaling, or walking. Which will not harm her, or the planet. We used to cycle and walk to school too.
Since the girl on TV demanded “we need to get rid of our dependency on fossil fuels” and our daughter agreed with her, we have disconnected the heat vent in her room. The temperature is now dropping to twelve degrees in the evening, and will drop below freezing in the winter, we have promised to buy her an extra sweater, hat, tights, gloves and a blanket.
For the same reason we have decided that from now on she only takes a cold shower. She will wash her clothes by hand, with a wooden washboard, because the washing machine is simply a power consumer and since the dryer uses natural gas, she will hang her clothes on the clothes line to dry, just like my parents and grandparents used to do.
Speaking of clothes, the ones that she currently has are all synthetic, so made from petroleum. Therefore on Monday, we will bring all her designer clothing to the secondhand shop.
We have found an eco store where the only clothing they sell is made from undyed and unbleached linen and jute. Also can’t have clothes made on wool, because the emissions from farting sheep are supposedly causing bad weather.
It shouldn’t matter that it looks good on her, or that she is going to be laughed at, dressing in colorless, bland clothes and without a wireless bra, but that is the price she has to pay for the benefit of The Climate.
Cotton is out of the question, as it comes from distant lands and pesticides are used for it. Very bad for the environment.
We just saw on her Instagram that she’s pretty angry with us. This was not our intention.
From now on, at 7 p.m. We will turn off the WiFi and we will only switch it on again the next day after dinner for two hours. In this way we will save on electricity, so she is not bothered by electro-stress and will be totally isolated from the outside world. This way, she can concentrate solely on her homework. At eleven o’clock in the evening we will pull the breaker to shut the power off to her room, so she knows that dark is really dark. That will save a lot of CO2.
She will no longer be participating in winter sports to ski lodges and resorts, nor will she be going on anymore vacations with us, because our vacation destinations are practically inaccessible by bicycle.
Since our daughter fully agrees with the girl on TV that the CO2 emissions and footprints of her great-grandparents are to blame for ‘killing our planet’, what all this simply means, is that she also has to live like her great-grandparents and they never had a holiday, a car or even a bicycle.
We haven’t talked about the carbon footprint of food yet.
Zero CO2 footprint means no meat, no fish and no poultry, but also no meat substitutes that are based on soy (after all, that grows in farmers fields, that use machinery to harvest the beans, trucks to transport to the processing plants, where more energy is used, then trucked to the packaging/canning plants, and trucked once again to the stores) and also no imported food, because that has a negative ecological effect. And absolutely no chocolate from Africa, no coffee from South America and no tea from Asia.
Only homegrown potatoes, vegetables and fruit that have been grown in local cold soil, because greenhouses run on boilers, piped in CO2 and artificial light. Apparently, these things are also bad for The Climate. We will teach her how to grow her own food.
Bread is still possible, but butter, milk, cheese and yogurt, cottage cheese and cream come from cows and they emit CO2. No more margarine and no oils will be used for the frying pan, because that fat is palm oil from plantations in Borneo where rain forests first grew.
No ice cream in the summer. No soft drinks and no energy drinks, as the bubbles are CO2.
We will also ban all plastic, because it comes from chemical factories. Everything made of steel and aluminum must also be removed. Have you ever seen the amount of energy a blast furnace consumes or an aluminum smelter? All bad for the climate!
We will replace her memory foam pillow top mattress, with a jute bag filled with straw, with a horse hair pillow.
And finally, she will no longer be using makeup, soap, shampoo, cream, lotion, conditioner, toothpaste and medication. Facewashers will all be linen, that she can wash by hand, with her wooden washboard, just like her female ancestors did before climate change made her angry at us for destroying her future.
In this way we will help her to do her part to prevent mass extinction, water levels rising and the disappearance of entire ecosystems.
If she truly believes she wants to walk the talk of the girl on TV, she will gladly accept and happily embrace her new way of life.
Regards,
(Name Withheld)

No idea why this suddenly sprung to mind - I think it is because I am being slowly driven mad by our 'modern' society - or it could be eating lead shot game all my life is turning me ga ga

we are all hypocrites in our own way but some insist on imposing their hypocrisies on others

If the changes in our climate are induced by human kind then the root cause is as obvious as the solution - the population is growing exponentially - have less babies (as a cull is no longer acceptable)!

This is the problem and the only problem.   If humans were any other species on this planet then we would have been out with the traps and poisons years ago.   That is obviously not acceptable but we could at least discuss the problem now and again.
