Its no trouble for anyone. A S.2 gun is a S.2 gun.

If it has a mag extension fitted it's still S.2.

This. You can fit a mag’ extension to any S2 shotgun. It doesn’t matter how long the mag’ is as long as it cannot hold more than two cartridges.

You might want to check that I’m sure if it can hold more than the 2 plus 1 it becomes a sec 1 ? I may wrong but the diff between sec 1 or 2 is mag capacity ?

You are absolutely correct. My S.2 gun is S.2 because the  mag tube is crimped to limit the capacity. Fitting an extension has no bearing on that. In order to increase the capacity either the crimp must be pushed out or the magazine replaced with one that is not crimped.

Call me thick but why would you you fit a mag extension to a shotgun if it doesn’t hold any more shells   Am I missing something?

You’re not thick. A S2 Winchester 1300 XTR I owned had formerly been S1. It came complete with its original screw on extended magazine, which you could either remove or leave on.

I can just imagine the face on the old couple I bumped into yesterday whilst walking around my permission if had a Rambo style shotgun. Come on , take your permission seriously and use the right tool for the job!

i would like a SPAS12 though for nostalgia and practical Shotgun though!

A magazine extension doesn’t in itself make a shotgun S1, only the capacity of the magazine.

Surely the sole reason for having an extension is to carry more cartridges! Are you actually suggesting you would have one just for show and to invite trouble?

Please explain why this is misinformation

I do now get your point. It just never occurred to me anyone would want a false extension. There is obviously a shooting fraternity I am not aware of.

i had a  section 2 escort  pump action only would hold 2 carts in the magazine,i put a extension on it that would not become a s1 shotgun.

It would if the extension allowed more than two cartridges. Why put it on otherwise?

Because some people want the "Tactical" or even "Tacticool" look!

Personally no I would not. But some might like the look.

How would it invite trouble?

Reading between the lines, I feel it may be helpful if I explain why I have the extension even though it's no one else's business.

I've been very active in Practical Shotgun over the last 33 years. I took the decision to go along the 20 bore Standard Division route some years ago, so I sourced the mag extension from the USA and  a yank brought it over for me at a major European match. The gun I intended to fit it to, turned out to be not so suitable, and with advancing years and reducing dexterity I now shoot Open Division box mag.

It just so happens that the extension fits Hatsan, and others, I wish to sell the Hatsan, and a prospective buyer may wish to go to S.1 with it. I have no other use for it.

I also have a 20 bore slug mould to go with it, but I expect some one will see that as inviting trouble too.

 "Tactical Shotgun"

The British Army has recently reintroduced tactical shotguns and various types of rounds not available to the public, at least in the UK.

Skelly stocks, folding stocks and pistol grips are quite common in Military Shotguns.

If you Google current British Army small arms, there are lots of technical information available.

As a former user of a "tactical shotgun" I never consider the use of one as shotgun use when thinking of my experience of shotgun shooting, if that paragraph makes sense.

For example, taking out door hinges with solid shot is not even in the same league as shooting a Pheasant at any range.

I'll not comment further as I don't want to dragged into a merits of "tactical shotguns" but what tightchoke has just written seems to ring true.

I understand all that , some shotguns were sold with mag tubes which could be made bigger , but what I’m having trouble with is why would someone spend money On a  mag extension that would purely be for show and not increase cap@city , I’d love to be a fly on the wall when your feo came round for the check ! Is it purely for cosmetic reasons ?

AS I said it might cause trouble. I give up on this subject as I obviously just do not understand the mindset.

Yes, that’s what it’s designed for. No, I wouldn’t have one and in fact gave it away, though I’m not sure why you think it would ‘invite trouble.’

Im probably wrong .but isnt a mag cartridge capacity extension for a shot gun a section 1 item. And as such, you would need a slot on ticket for said magazine .?

Bearing in mind some of the totally illogical firearms legislation we have in the UK, it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if they were S1, but I can’t think why they would or should be. 🤔

What I meant when I said it would invite trouble was the fact that it cameup as I’m selling a hatsan shotgun and would throw in a magazine extension ,,,,,,,,....... at that point I assumed it was a magazine extension !,,,,,, not a purely cosmetic item while leaving the original  magtube 2+1 ............if some one bought it as a sect 2 shotgun and had the extension in their possession or worse still fitted it !,,,,!,,,,,,that’s what I meant that it would invite trouble , it never crossed my mind that some one would have one and not want to increase the capacity

The two best tactical pumps in my opinion is base off of the rem 870 and the mosburg 500/590.

The popular thing over here right now is birds head grips and 14in barrels.  We call them dumpster defenders.  Seem lots of people are removing there shift knobs on there trucks and sliding them down over the stick to essentially turn the shotgun into the shifter.
