These are a good resource. You just need to click "find a place" and type in the modern name of the nearest place to where your interested in and they bring up all the maps they have on that area. You need a landmark that was around at the time to use as a marker.

hello, yes i used this type of information when i did a lot of detecting, your woodland should be interesting with a detector, what C scope did you get ?

The CS440XD. Just a basic one to get me started. I bought myself a skyscanner  pin pointer as well.

As the head is waterproof I could run it up the stream as well as most of the time it is only a few inches deep.

hello, that looks ok, its a non motion so you do not need to swing about much between trees, the mini head phones are ok but i would get some that cover the ears, the pin pointers handy, a decent border spade, with your small digger, i would first set the discrimination at zero so you get use to the signals  from iron/silver/ etc, this detector is ideal for beaches but not sure on wet sand, anyway best of luck with your new venture,

I have some headphones that cover the ears as I wear hearing aids. Small digger ???  :good:
