Well I had to share with you all!

We got Pepper in April this year. Two year old cocker bag of bones bitch and man was she terrified to the point where my hubby went to say hello to her and she projectile pooed all over the walls and fridge behind her in fear.

If somebody moved quickly or raised their voice she would scarper and wee everywhere.

Its taken forever to get her to even go to men for a fuss and we thought she would end up just being my pet.

Roll forward to today and she’s only out beating with hubby and having a wonderful time!! We’re thrilled and so happy that she’s happy!

Sorry, just had to share!! ❤️❤️

Beats me 😡

Ive many a time heard people say ‘my dog doesn’t like men / women or whatever but nine times out of ten it’s been down to a lack of socialisation or what have you.

Never have I seen a dog so terrified 😢😢

Still, all’s well that ends well 😊

😍😍😍 it’s made ours too!

She was an accidental purchase, we went to Gloucestershire to pick up a springer pup, ended up with two springer pups and Pepper (not from the same people) 😂😂

Lovely. They are worth every effort to undo the harm.

We had a terrier from a rescue at about 3 years old that was terrified of men. We got him with OH saying we will manage if he is alright with you. After 6 months OH could stroke him. After a year he let him put a collar on. In the third year he jumped on OH'S  knee for the first time. We had him till he was 16.

That's fantastic BB, just read it to my wife and must admit got a bit chocked reading it out loud. Gives me a little bit of hope that I'll get our 16 month old sprocker out beating some time in the next decade. He just wants to gallop everywhere right now and we've had more highly strung/nervous bowel and bladder action from him than we expected in the past six months of ownership.

All the best with Pepper, she's lovely.

Cheers, Mick X

Gosh that was a surprise to see this thread again!

Well, she really wasn’t cut out to be a kennel dog, far too much of a Princess, especially during the summer months when the dogs weren’t doing much. It just so happened that a friend had lost her spaniel a few months prior and felt she was ready to have another hiking buddy. I gave her Pepper who is now living her Very Best Life with her and her little boy and I see loads of pics on FB of them, it’s great ❤️

For those who are invested in Pepper’s story I thought I would let you know that she’s been on her holibobs here for a week as her owner had hurt her leg. To begin with she was very unsure of everyone else but remembered me straight away. She’s been my constant companion this last week much to my kids’ chagrin 😂 ‘Muuuuum that dog’s obsessed with you’ 😂

Shes going back tonight, I’m going to miss her but so very glad her owner asked me to have her despite other offers as there’s no way she could have gone anywhere unfamiliar ❤️

Little update- she’s back with me as she wasn’t happy being left in the house for any period of time.
Today she had her first game retrieve! I could have cried! Marked it, went out when sent, took a little while figuring out how to balance it but then brought it back pleased as punch with herself.

Well done that lady!

After the too-ing and fro-ing between keepers she still got it. And well done you for taking her on again Nothing like seeing that first retrieve on game. My old girl looked proud as punch bringing in her first woodcock, had to walk 200yards around a hedge to put her onto the scent and she was on it like a demon.

Wish I had taken more photos of her.

Such an amazing feeling isn’t it! Especially on a Woodcock as they don’t give off much scent!

Yep absolutely amazing, freezing cold day in the snow! I could have sent her straight for it but didn't want to risk it with the big ugly bit of barbed wire in the way so we walked around then I put her on where we last seen it crossing the hedge.

I've no gundog at present (and with current prices maybe not for a couple of years yet!) so I can't wait for the future where I can get that feeling again!
