Fire breaks?

https://www.sciencealert.com/the-bushfires-in-australia-are-so-big-they-re-generating-their-own-weather

I might have posted this link before. But these fires are so massive that they basically create their own thunderstorms that, along with lightning strikes, rain down burning lumps of debris instead of water, kilometers ahead of the actual blaze.  They self-propagate and once they're going, only nature can stop them. It's like something out of hell.

The whole thing has been handled appalling by those in government, should have dealt with promptly from the start instead of differing

pic is of 1 of 2 fire trucks at uncle RFS fire shed ( me and daughter playing );the haze around top of cab is water spray called the “ halo “ meant to cool cab in case it gets caught in the fire ,

just heard town 20 km away is meant to be hav8ng it’s fire and rescue services cut in half  talk about adding insult to injury

Even if you cut fire breaks all it needs is a spark to land in the litter or brush to start it off again. It's also quite a thing to see how forest fires can move, a lot tend to jump from top to top very fast due to the wind leaving the rest of the tree to burn from the top down and it's not unknown for the breaks to be breached too. In extreme cases you just have to retreat.

you must remember its all happened many times  before  what henry stated above is true be it anywhere bush fires are the norm trees and plants flourish after fires they need fires to regenerate  also  artic  ice cores prove this as well as written records  it has happened before   now social media f book etc hypes the bejisous out of things however now worse than recent years  listened to the news worst summers  mild winters in years they forget to go two yrs further to 2010 frozen up for weeks one day off a wildfowling ban  -10 and more  for weeks no global warming bs mentioned until this year  media hype bs      watched an French athor on the news stating people were getting thick/ stupid as they did not read anymore or research anything  anymore       everything on  google and f book was gospel         I remember the summers of 76 and the winters before and after     common sense must work rather than  media bs for weeks until the next drama        trump in the middle east   weeks of no climate change to come

True they need fires to regenerate but they also need the rain to follow for the regeneration to happen  after the fires ,some parts of NSW have had drought for 4 years ,as I stated in a previous post this winter daytime temperatures have been high 20’s to low 30’s ,hence why it was so important to tackle the fires as soon as they broke out  yesterday the temps went up again with wind direction changing and 80 mpg gusts ,you can see how these fires travel so fast

uncles got 2 pumps set up trained on his house one in the pool which will empty in no time and one in his water bore with the pump sitting 150 feet below ground level with no garantee of how much is left in there , things are going to get worse yet

Lots of these bush fires are started by people. So not a natural disaster.  As housing moved out into bush land the fire breaks have not been maintained and the controlled burning.  Much like here too much cost cutting.

Yes that is a big factor, plus apparently people have been planting lots of trees in the newly developed residential areas because they want the shade and wooded land is considered more upmarket (valuable) compared to bare  bush. Its been going on for decades apparently and people have been warned its creating a time bomb.

But people like trees over there, as soon as somebody buys a plot of land they want to plant trees

Not sure about Australia  but as for California fires it’s a direct result of poor policy.  In California small fires are not allowed to burn the underbrush.  Plus the liberals refused to allow control burns because of animal habitat.  So what happens is you get about 10 years worth of dry dead underbrush and bam.  Uncontrollable fire storm.

Fire breaks are ineffective due to winds and temperatures they’ve found burnt leaves on a beach from a rain forest 40+ miles away and that’s the trouble one ember from 40 miles away will start another fire and that just carry’s on the cycle

There was an Aussie fireman that  built one, he was fined iirc $100,00 for doing so. When the fires hit his town his was one of the few, maybe the only houses that survived.

If they are even a small percentage effective then they need to be implemented.

If not people have to deal with this kind of stuff
