Browning 525 help

Hi

I have a 525 and every time the gun is opened the ejectors fire the snap caps out regardless of whether fired or not, what I would appreciate is

1- what would be the likely cause

And

2 - what kind of cost would I be looking at to have a smith put right

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

I have no idea what the cause is but it might be advantageous to post some additional info.

Type of Snap Cap ? (Plastic, Steel, Brass)

525 New or Used ? (I suspect used or it would be back at the Dealer and you wouldn't be inquiring about No 2)

Has the issue just started having been ok in the past OR  is this the first time using Snap Caps in the Gun ?

A friend of mine had the same thing, but can't remember which gun though......long time ago.

He bought it new, one Thursday evening but couldn't shoot until the Sunday. He spent the next couple of days "playing" with his new toy, and like you say, the snap caps kept popping out.

Come the Sunday and from his first shot, the gun acted quite normal. Can't recall whether or not he used the snap caps again.

How long ago was the gun new?

I was wondering that until I read the OP's second post (in response to Ant 1's question). I can't see anyone keeping a new gun for so long before shooting it that it's out of warranty before they actually gat around to it. I must be missing something.

I bought new and it's never  been fired so if I pop in snap caps, close and then open out they pop

hello, why do you not go and shoot a few cartridges ??? forget the snap caps, you have a ten year warranty, i am sure the ejector system works on the cartridge recoil, well my 525 never had any problems,

Is the gun cocking ? If it has been stored for a long time dried oil may be stopping the sears from dropping so that they do not engage the hammers  . As a result the gun thinks its fired and will eject .

Thanks - is that an easy fix?

I think your gun just has to go into a  gunsmith. There is no way a 525, new, is going to gum up to be unusable  nomatter how long it's stored. Mine was bought new. Fired only once and then stored for ten years. It worked perfectly.

Have I missed it but why is a new gun not going back to the retailer?

Roughly 5 years

hello, and you have never shot a cartridge in all that time ?? if thats the case you best return to the gun shop you purchased from as it should still be in warranty, if for any reason you cannot take back to the original seller then your going to have to pay a gunsmith to sort out

Agree was just asking first, believe me I know My limitations, I don't even attempt jobs, always leave it with the experts

hello, ok well as i said take it to a gun shop/smith and get them to check out, the 525 has a 10 year warranty so you maybe lucky if there is an ejector problem and the shop contacts Browning UK
