Please be gentle lads .

my mate bought a cheapo 410 to teach his 3 year old to shoot or so he hopes. The stock needed 5” cut off it but he didn’t want to cut the original so he asked me to help.
he’s a sparky that I owe a favour so I said I’d do it for nothing . I didn’t expect much as I’m a joiner not a stock maker and it’s not my trade .
ive another coat of stain to give it yet and then the piling can commence .

i haven’t bothered with chequering as it’s so small and I’m not that good especially for free 😀😀

It needs several coats of stain to get it close as it’s almost black needed and then I can start a finish

This is a mossy stock shortened and just a simple oak comb on top .

I screwed 2 timber locks in the butt  and then tooker a grinder to the heads leaving just 2 rods sticking up .

Drill 2 holes in the comb and push down there is enough fricton to set different hights  or glue into position when happy

Not to critisise. But if its for a smaller kid then the comb needs to be higher as they have smaller faces ,narrower eyes as well as shorter arms .

It might be worth having an adjustable cheek piece on it .

Good work though

He can pay for that one 😂😂. I guess it would be easy enough really and I could thread straight into the oak .
cheers tho 👍

Always an option 👍. I’ll see how he fits on it first but I guess it’s only an extra hours work . 👍

The idea of the comb leaning downwards at the front ,not up  ,is so when the gun recoils backwards and up a bit the shooter doesnt get cheek slap .

A common problem with short stocks .

Worth considering if the kids complains it hurts his  face .

I did wonder that 👍. I guess he’ll use 2” carts to start and the dad will be holding it to be honest.

my son just loves his BB gun 😀

Is 3 not a bit young for a shotgun ? All be it a .410 ?

Great  job though 👍🏻

I think it’s just ideas for him to be honest. My kids were 8+ . I just do as I’m asked 😀😀😀. I fitted it to my 5 year old and left it big for her so I hope it’s got growing room.

cheers 😎

I wish I had your skill. I'm just cutting one up, but on advice saving the off cut in case its wanted later.

I think you could have a thriving buisness as a stock maker😉

Noooo I’m honestly guessing all the way through. I follow the wood working gun smith on Facebook from off here and he’s amazing.
I’ll  stick to joinery in future but I’ll always play at things

i recon I’ve spent 7 hours which is the same time as the wife’s chopping block 😀
