So the BASC GP is charging for this service? You pay BASC for membership and their GP charges on top of that? Some GP's won't do it at all, but mine doesn't charge anything!

Exactly. Why would any shooter risk going to see their GP if they thought they may lose their tickets?

BASC are not receiving any payment for this service, all monies go to the GP.

And, my GP didn't realise (until today) that I held a FAC/Shotgun licence.

Through BASC, the GP promised a one week turnaround.

Exactly I thought all GPs constantly complain they are over worked and it takes days to get a GP appointment, yet this GP can find time to do this sort of additional work.

also how does the BASC GP know they have received a complete set of your medical records? And that they have not advantageously been altered or parts omitted? Answer they don’t.

You may have told Your GP you felt depressed and suicidal on one visit to them.

You find the entry in your GDPR copies and either omit the page or edit it out  then send the records to the BASC GP who will be none the wiser.

so basically if your were the very person who lies about their medical history on the certificate application form you would be the very same sort of person who would not think twice about altering the records before you send then to the BASC GP.
So this then fails to achieve the very goal it was setup for, all it is doing is costing us as shooters a lot of extra money for no gain in public safety.

Has nobody at BASC, Police or Home Office got a brain.

Sculls because it is a nice little earner for the BASC GP of course he could do it for nothing after all he claims to be a shooting man so why would he not want to help fellow shooters for free?

money money money it’s a rich mans world.

Every time i think about this i keep asking myself "am i stupid, it it just me that doesn't have this clouded vision"  Paying whatever price these Dr's put on their new money earner, and for whatever reason the Firearm licensing authority thought this would control firearm crime in the UK, there deluded !!!this will not stop people wanting a firearm to commit crime getting access to one.

All it is doing is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well basically annoying those people who go about there life being law abiding respectable people who like shooting.

I know BASC see these posts and i have always supported them, but to be quite honest i, like many feel let down by an organisation who we fund their very existence.  Its just one click for me to stop my subscription fees, and i'll run gauntlet with regards to any insurance claims.

A friend has had to push his GP to complete the form. She failed to do it despite four reminders. She is now doing it for free, as goodwill gesture. A friend of his son's was quoted £200 for the service and was going to pack in shooting. I supplied him with the MedCert link from here. He has now paid his £50 and is over the moon.

As has been pointed out, if the GP overcharges, they will end up doing virtually all the work - via a Subject Access request - and get zilch. A very short sighted idea to charge a fee.

As for the criminals in the NHS - they are in all walks of life, the NHS being no different.

Gordon, under the subject access GDPR their is the ability under certain circumstances for a fee to be charged but stick criteria applies.

BBC news today a GP jailed for sex offences so they are such respectable members of society, yes only a very few like that, but exactly the same with firearms owners very very few will be making a false medical declaration on the application form.

steve how are you getting on with this now.

I've decided to use the BASC service, mainly because the GP quotes a 'one week turnaround'. I've requested a full copy of my medical records from my GP, and then I'll forward these to the GP that BASC have recommended. My licence expires May 20th so hopefully, all will be sorted before then.

  • 4 weeks later...

UPDATE:

After waiting almost a month, I finally received my medical records from my GP. Yesterday, I posted them (next day delivery) to a GP in Gloucester (recommended by BASC) who has now received them, and will look them over a sign the Pro Forma. He's going to return the forms in the next day or two, and send them back to me. I've then got to send them, with my renewal application, to the Police. My FAC/SC expire on May 20th, so I'll still be within the 8 week timeframe by the time I post them.

I think what you guys have to go through for licencing on the mainland is a big load of kack. We have had terrorism in NI for 50+ years, can still own nigh on any handgun you want so long as you're in a pistol club and dont have half as much troube. when it comes to grants and renewals and health the FEO basically emails the gp if they have an issue on your health and the gp emails them the relevant info back, never heard of anybody being charged for it. At most all I had to do with my last renewal was come see the doctor for her to have a wee chat and write the email with her

I recieved my medical records from the Dr Surgery last friday, I posted them along with the requested forms to https://firearmsmedicalreports.co.uk/  They received the package on Monday and have written back to me today with the a draft of the completed documentation along with the bank detail to Pay their £50.00 fee. They've made a note about a single record of anxiety with a referal for counciling in Nov 2019 which I'm sure will raise some questions.

I'm with Essex and my SGC runs out early in May, as soon as I recieve the completed from I'll get them into Essex Police and crack on, fingers crossed.

do they get your records, or have got to get them.and send them off to them

I had to supply my surgery with a written request for FULL medical records, which they provided after about 3 weeks of sending me summaries and useless links. I then added that to the form I downloaded from Firearmsmedicalreports

If it helps here's a copy of the request to the surgery,

Following our conversation earlier please can you arrange for a hard copy of my full medical records to be collated and made available for me to collect in the next 7 days.

I require them in order for a medical report to be completed by a GP on my behalf. The copy must include all of my records including specialist letters and copies of the old records cards, once known as ‘Lloyd George’ cards.

I look forward to your prompt assistance and collecting the records. If you can advise me as to when they will be ready to collect I’d be grateful.

If you would like to discuss it further please contact me on the details below.
