Cheese race

This is the Coopers Hill Cheeserolling event that takes place in Brockworth ,Gloucestershire every year.

I have attended (as an onlooker),many times, and the view from the summit is frightening, the hillside is actually concave, so its hard to see the finishing line.

It is estimated to be about a 45-50 degree angled drop, chasing a 7lb circular Double Gloucester cheese, which reaches a speed estimated of 70mph.

Injuries are numerous ,the event was stopped a few years ago due to the carnage, but still goes on now, probably unofficially.

Members of the local Brockworth Rugby club act as catchers at the bottom of the hill, and basically tackle the chasers, to prevent them running into the cottages at the bottom.

One year there were 33 injuries, collar bones, ankles and wrists being the major contributors !

One competitor, (Chris Anderson), has won 22 Cheeseraces, and is still competing now...........he obviously likes cheese.
