We've a good 4"of water in the farm yard and the garage in Stafford that always floods is under water again, they haven't finished refurbing it since the last time it was flooded never mind last week.

They probably had to pump the milk parlour out this morning before the started milking.

For most of the night we only had very strong winds , when I took my dog out this morning there was only a light drizzle , on the way back I was only a couple of 100 yards from my motor when the heavens opened and it poured a rain , in that short distance I got soaked and I pity the poor souls who are getting that sort of rain for hours on end . GOOD LUCK in keeping your houses flood free .

Many homes underwater this morning, the government would be far better spending taxpayers money on flood defensives than a high speed train (HS2) priority’s all wrong.

Problem is high speed trains sound good, personally a train service that runs properly and is affordable would be much better.

As for the river Kent, its dropped 3 or 4 foot over night thankfully.

Last weekend I had a hundred foot Ash tree blown over by the wind, luckily it went over into my neighbors and took out two conifers. It it had gone the other way it would have taken out the house behind. During the week l have been cutting back with a chainsaw. Plenty of logs for the fire.

This weekend three more conifers gone down next door and both our gardens are flooded and we live on a ridge. A weekend to remember.

cant understand why people plant trees round the houses.

I have some very large trees (Sycamore and Holm oak) close to the house - but they have tree preservation orders so I can't do anything.  These days, your property isn't your own to look after.  It is dome by someone remotely in an office 10 miles away who makes the decision based on forms and reports (which I have to pay for).

Could you not apply for a 10-15 pc crown reduction and a crown thin plus dead wood

Yes, and I have carried that out but;

  1. It is expensive (last time was about £750 a tree) because access isn't easy on two of the trees
  2. They (especially the Holm oaks) tend to grow back with lots of vigorous new shoots and foliage from the stumps which simple increasing the wind loading, which means that it needs doing even more often.
  3. The sycamore is a particular nuisance from its seeds growing in all the gutters/roof gullys - and is not a rare tree.

The trees were on the edge of an old meadow which was at the back of our house which is 115 years old, they crammed in a load of modern houses in the 70s. Our gardens a third of an acre so the trees are not near our house.
