Cabinet Heaters

Just wondered what you guys and gals used for cabinet heaters to keep your guns damp free due to cabinet location?

I dont use one but If I was I'd probably use a reptile heat mat with a stat and stick it to the top of the cabinet so guns arent in contact with it

I think a "cabinet heater" if there were such a thing would be hazardous to the health of your gun, especially the woodwork. You'll be better off locating your cabinet in a room which is dry and not too cold (or hot) e.g. the average room in your home.

I would not think any heater will combat a damp atmosphere It can be warm and damp at the same time.

Even if the atmosphere is dry you don't want it too dry or your stocks may split Around 35 40% humidity is usually about right,

I keep several guns outside in the Carolina humidity.  I have golden dehumidifier rods in all of my cabinets and get zero rust.  When it rains the humidity beads up on cabinets and they are rusting but on the inside they stay dry and rust free.

Here you can the humidity beading up and running down the safe and dripping on the floor.  The Goldenrod is the gold standard and the first choice for any serious collector.

Your wrong,  you can store guns at 100 percent humidity but if you safe is 1 degree warmer then the outside temperature the condensation cannot form.

Again humidity doesn’t damage anything,  condensation does.  That’s what heaters prevent.

Open-weave bag + handful of cat litter.   Without it, the atmosphere (cabinet in a fairly cool room in northern UK) is just damp enough for slight mould to form on woodwork within a few weeks.   Definitely not "fit and forget" -- cat litter must be replaced before it gets saturated.   Not appropriate for high humidity locations.

Is it worth chucking a few packs of the granules you get in shoes in the cabinet as the aren't mean to draw in moisture?

De-humidifier crystal  tub things cost  about a £1 I use the in the caravan over winter

As above sat on top of cabinet. About £2 with a spare refill from home bargain type shops.

So if that’s a dehumidifier, where does all the moisture go? Is it just a heater?

Moisturizer doesn’t harm guns.   Condensation does.  Air can’t condensate of guns if they are warm.

I have also placed one of those humidity blocks inside both of my cabinets but they are both empty (if a problem you can see the water collecting at the bottom). 
 

Also have a sachet if VP90 stuck to the inside wall.
