Well, it's hardly rocket science.

My bad, actually it is.

No it really wasn't ROCKET SCIENCE, which is exactly why it failed and killed him!

Surely it would of been cheaper and safer to just hire a helicopter, go up as high as you like and take a photo?

I don’t want to brag but Mad Mike only managed to get 5% of the height I regularly get to. His ticket cost £14k my last one was £36 + hold baggage and booking fee, ok so not far off £14k but that’s due to EasyJet being robbing tinkers....

Jokes aside, What actual height did he get too?

Not high enough to see the curvature of the earth, consequently he died happy!:w00t:

I believe the rocket reached an altitude of circa 570m, which is just 10,300m short of the altitude a commercial airliner flies at. Not to dampen his chips but there are at least 500 hills in UK where you can walk to higher than he reached.

The other steam rocket,  Full marks to him for inventing a steam driven rocket. but he should have left it there.. I wonder what his friends and advisers were saying to him on the day... "dont worry "mad" it'll be alright and yes i think your right the world is quite flat "...:sad1:

Instead of going upwards to prove his loony theory, he should have headed for the hedge!

 Under the flight line.

Probably the first person to be knocked down and killed by a train.. at the time of his funeral it was reported that "Cheap and rapid long- distance transport was now possible. if not dangerous" .........perhaps a fitting epitaph for poor old "mad"

Im no expert but i don't believe a helicopter or most commercial planes fly high enough to get a conclusive view of the curvature of the earth, I await to be corrected if wrong however.

Better to crash and burn than just fade away🤯

That is only believed by people who crash and burn, not the rest of us.

The RAF Lightnings used to go high enough, to about 50000 feet.

You are right I didn't realise that you have to be over 37000 feet, the easiest way to see the curvature of the earth is to stand on a beach and watch a ship coming over the horizon

If you stand in the middle of the Makarikari in Botswana you can see the curve whichever way you face. (When you have paid to get there you could fit in a very good holiday seeing some of the greates game viewing Africa), From this you might have gathered that I am a tiny fan.

Tsala sintle, borra.
