Why can you not just say what you want to say and leave it at that, You were doing ok, but then you just can not help yourself, you have to DIG and whack in the part about we do not all earn BASC salaries. Why do you do that. ?

Ots not helpfull and not doing yourself any favours at all. JUST SAYING.

What was wrong commenting on that the people at Basc  who have made the decision to support this voluntary ban are paid decent salaries?
Not all shooters are in the same position and a lot will be retired on a pension so unable to do a few hours extra work to increase their disposable income.

Rio is part of the maxam group like Eley so they are really one and the same it is possible that the steel eco wad Rio cartridges will never come to the UK to compete with Eley they are probably being made on the same machine in Spain and put in different boxes one for Eley one for Rio.

don’t believe the hype my friend if either of my large shoots even thought this so called big rush to eat game is coming they would be putting extra birds down to take advantage of it come this season we will have the same piles of birds we have with lead because the public have been convinced we kill for fun so they won’t touch game what ever we fire at it

Firstly, we do kill for fun.

Secondly, why would you put more birds down just because more people may want to eat game?

And why do you think it will be any different with the voluntary ban for pheasant, partridge and grouse?
Who will pay £440.00 for steel cartridges in biodegradable wads to go shoot pigeons? Or on a diy game shoot.
They have badly managed this it should have been introduced gradually, the large commercial shoots, selling the 70 percent of game, first then expanding from that as the cartridges became more available and hopefully lower in price.
however I think the price will remain high for a very long time to allow the manufactures to recover their investment costs.

Introducing things gradually, you say. Five years ring any bells?

Unless my eyes are deceiving me at 4:31 in the video the cartridge ejected from his gun did not look like the same brass head clear case steel cartridge he was showing at the start, it looked like a nickel head black case. Like black gold in lead.

anybody else care to look.

Yes, your eyes deceived you.

I just dont think it seems right comment in that way it seemed to be implying they were rich and inferred they were cocking a snoot to me. I just dont think this is worth getting all this exited about.

Reading this stuff on facebook its really rather silly and for nothing its just not important.

Rio saga and eley are linked and caledonian/ monarch  are in the fold too,, and probably others i have never heard of.

Mate Daz rang shooting star spoke to the chap there, he says later in month they will be getting 21 gram bio steels in from joker. and varrious lead loads , but there will be others different loads in these bios in the coming months when they order.  Apparently Joker are doing 20s next and then either 16s or 10s in the future.  Thats what he was told just today. They are doing this bio ammo too he said.

It will cost me in excess of £2700 to convert my guns for steel just to  hold there value which is not to be sniffed at. My only steel proof gun is a semi auto, not suitable really for game shooting

How do you convert your guns for steel use?

If you , or anyone else needs help patterning their guns, and if you cant find a shooting ground near enough to use, we do have some comprehensive guidance on this and how you can DIY on land you have access to

Here’s the problem with steel and pattern for fixed choke gun

you fire the first shot and check your pattern counting the pellet you then bore out a bit more to get the desired pattern for your gun
this means starting with full choke and gradually boreing out

full choke or more which is inherently dangerous for the gun assuming the manufacturers cartridges guidelines are followed

does anyone else see the problem??

Full and extra full!!!

That doesn't mean you should have them opened.

I have said on a few occasions that I have two wildfowling guns that are fixed full choked. I have used pretty large steel through them with no bother. They aren't steel proofed, either.

If you are thinking of using 3 or 4 steel, I would personally leave as it is, providing the gun hasn't got wafer thin muzzles or similar.

Why would I not tell anyone I shoot for fun? It is the truth.

I’m thinking of using 5 or 6 steel through it if I can get some in 2.3/4

No i can not see your issue at all, i know a bloke uses a manufrance robust 2.5 inch boxlock , its 2.5 unch and fixed full and full i think or 31/4 and full. its fired mant many thousands of rounds of fast  reloads mostly and its totaly unafected by steel in any way.

They're full and 3/4, i've spoken to Browning and Teague Chokes and they both recommend having them reproofed which will be for steel after multi choking.AND ALSO INVALIDATING the warranty

Oh another nice cheap option and ha e you not noticed nobody imports B&P cartridges into the UK and copper is toxic to some wildlife.

steel shot is really the only logical option.

Copper is legal here, and B&P could be imported if anyone of the importers decided they wanted too. Look at the upland market in the states, its huge , no shortfall on steel shot or any such thing. If its needed it will be produced somewhere. Might not have everything in place this very second, but its weeks away not years.
