He'll appeal to the mega-looney left and the young. But he won't appeal to moderates. He won't appeal to the older generations who still remember Reds under the bed, he won't appeal to business, or the Religious Right. That's the election gone. The centre ground will vote for Trump (many reluctantly) because the internal American economy is doing well - at least in the short term - and that's better than having a terrorist lovin', workshy lovin' big government lovin', tax-hike lovin' Communist in. Plus he's 78 and has already had one heart attack on the campaign trail. I wouldn't wish it on anybody, but do the Dems really want to effectively default on the White House should he have another, more serious one? Walker570
The Demos have shot their horse, not only with the impeachment thing but also by the fact they just did not have a reputable, sensible person to make a stand. They are in a very similar situation to the Labour party here. I think Bernie is a nice genuine guy, but a Marxist through and through and hasn't got a cat in hells chance of making the Whitehouse. Now, I think had they chosen Elizabeth Warren they might have had a fighting chance.

TIGHTCHOKE
Possibly, can't see Donald being stopped from having his second term.

I was born and raised Democrat, and a Trump flag is hanging on my parents house. They switched after Obama’s disaster of a first term. But my mom is a rabid Trump supporter. The Democrats no longer represent the middle class. In fact they are unhinged.
udderlyoffroad
Ditchie, the papers all appear to trotting out this line that “the difference between Corbyn & Bernie is that Bernie could win” What utter horse manure. Middle America (those 46 fly-over states so ignored by their and our media) won’t vote for him, neither will the considerable Latino vote, possibly some of the African American vote but even then his appeal is limited... For some reason I could never quite fathom, the reporting we get in the UK omitted to mention that Hilary is incredibly divisive in the US, and thus almost any republican running against her would get the keys to the White House almost by default. Hence Trump, and that’s before she started insulting his potential voters. So, I think the media set is still busyily engaged in talking only to their friends and/or the party faithful. This Saturday Night Live skit from three years ago pretty much covers it:
Thunderbird
The parallels between what's (probably) going to happen in the USA to the Democrats, and what did happen here to Labour are interesting. It's what happens when a 'woke' metropolitan elite take over a blue-collar vote party, and their cultural Marxism doesn't play well with the social conservatism of much of the core vote. I would be amazed if Trump doesn't win.

JohnfromUK
The US Democrats selecting Sanders is like the UK Labour party selecting Corbyn. Appeals to a vocal minority - and a minority doesn't win elections.

I am in Atlanta GA at the moment and the people I have spoken with who want to see a candidate who stands a chance of taking on Trump, have given up. They see a parallel with our recent election in that Boris won by such a long distance predominantly (as they see it) because the alternative was unelectable. All the Democrat candidates are viewed as either mad or senile. The election is for Trump to lose.
