Wild Polecats have a face "mask" that is very dark (like a comedy sketch burglars mask) and extends down the nose. Polecat ferrets are not so dark in the face neither are cross breeds (apparently).

I'd say ferret. I like the pictures posted by Rim Fire; I used to own a hob very much like ( but his fur was black rather than dark tan ) the top picture. I named him Diesel and he was a monster! He and my Border Terrier didn't get on at all! Made for some interesting ferreting days out. 😀
