Gun fit

I’d wait and se if it’s a trend .... a few lazy mounts in the heat of the moment and that could have done it.

If it’s the same after a few more days out then it’ll be worth a look.

If you’re subconsciously pressing your cheek into the stock to get your normal sight picture, then the comb would need lowering.

IF you have previously shot this gun without it bruising your cheek, then I would look more towards gun mounting. Stand in front of a mirror and mount the gun to cheek and shoulder and try keeping your head, slightly inclined towards the stock, but static. Do try to avoid dropping your head to the stock.  I once had a shooting pal with the exact same problem, although his gun had been fitted and he had previously shot exceptionally well with it, he had developed head dropping. He did not believe me until I stood him in front of a mirror and he saw for himself. He went away, practised his gun mount and sorted the problem. Have a look on You Tube at gun mounting videos.

Personally I’d shoot it a couple more times if it continues go and see someone who knows what they are talking about.

As above.  See a gun fitment specialist, who actually makes stocks ... a Stocker by trade .... have a try gun fitment and then see if that relates to your gun.

It will probably be all down to bad mounting technique and often clothing can cause this, so have a few shots with a different coat on.  I have a favorite shooting coat, it is super warm and comfortable but I can't shoot for toffee if I wear it.  Put another coat on and no problem.

Yes I have but only 10 lb

I to lost some weight , and you could see it in me face , started  missing quite a few Clay's,  had to alter my gun fit , looky my gun is fully adjustable  , maybe worth getting it checked .

I have never been an expert in gun fit either my own or other peoples but I can say that having lost a fair bit of weight from my arms and upper body in recent months I have noticed a big difference in my shooting.

My gun mount is no longer natural and I feel like a novice.

Perhaps you should negotiate with your wife to get your old body shape back.

Are you trying to sight down the rib? I shot a few months ago and, for some odd reason, decided to subconsciously sight right down the rib. Ended up with a bruised cheek and took me a few days to figure it out. Hadn't shot like that before, haven't since and no bruised cheek.

Would your gun by any chance be a Beretta?

Seek the advice of a competent Instructor or a Gunsmith / Stockmaker .

It could be a multitude of numerous small details , but none of us can cure the issue without seeing you and your gunfit .

Gun control , Not licensing but position of hands and grip .Basically you may not be holding it hard enough .But with out you standing in front of me I can not really say so can only suggest based on many years of dealing with similar problems

This is probably nearer the mark, as I was sitting down shooting pigeons coming into decoys. Now my cheeks has gone down I will try again, well when we can go out a again.

A good way of checking is to mount the gun then using only the hand on the forend move about as if you were shooting . If your hand is not far enough forward or your grip is not enough or you are not pulling back hard on to your shoulder then the gun will "jump" when fired and hit you . Repeat with only the hand on the grip  as if you were one armed .

Gun and man should move as one , I used to do this with people , getting them to mount the gun then I would hold the muzzzel and try to move the gun . If I could move the gun in the mans hands it was a sign he was not holding tight , if he was he would be moved with the gun . This can be noticeable particularlly when shooting left to right crossers [right hand shooter ] that you hit but left to right crossers you miss offten because instead of pushing the gun into you shoulder as you swing right  you are allowing it to move onto your upper arm as you swing left , the fore hand pulling the gun away from you  as you swing .

Hope that make sense to you .
