ShootingEgg
Any PM would of done this. How many other countries are already on lockdown. Its a carp situation. Would you rather this unknown and currently very hard to cure virus just carried on... All working in a pub so would be at a high risk of getting the virus. Also he could of just said oh well no money for anyone...
Danger-Mouse
It's a no win situation for Boris. Plenty of commentators out there saying he should have shut things down already. Now people will complain about him doing it.

margun
Common cold is a coronavirus and still no cure for that, just evolved and understood. This new beast isn't known hence why no chances taken, not enough data yet to understand it. Knowing who had had it and got over it without knowing would help close the loop. I feel for your daughter, 3 friends of mine including my youngest's godmother have postponed weddings already. One at the beginning of October. A properly **** situation but one that must be faced down. Edited March 20, 2020 by margun
norfolk dumpling
You only have to watch news reports of the situation in Italy to realise what might see here - car parks full of hearses and a huge backlog of coffins at the crematorium. We do not want to get anywhere near that situation.

We do not want to get anywhere near that situation. We are likely to see that and worse. The Italians were better prepared than we are and their health system was in a better condition than ours. We are at capacity before this even started. People will be dying from conditions that would normally be survivable. Not necessarily From covid, but other conditions because they can’t get treatment. Chatting with a mates dad yesterday as we installed the last cctv camera at their house / business, they are now sat waiting to see if they can hold a funeral for the grandmother. The morgue is full, but now potentially can't move the bodies. It's crazy times we are now in. Edited March 21, 2020 by ShootingEgg
norfolk dumpling
Italians however by their very nature - they are older, smoke more and love to kiss and cuddle everyone - did transmit virus very very quickly. The 'stiff upper lip' we suffer from will help plus of course we are behind the game and have learned a huge amount from those who, sadly, are in deep ****! There was a brief news item on a town in France, close to Alps - I've forgotten name - where it looked like a microcosm of Italy but then it was revealed it was largely retired people who were wealthy and travelled extensively! Our worry, here in East Anglia, is the wealthy Londoners who have holiday homes on our coastline! Southwold is crawling with them and we have one popular seaside in North Norfolk we know as Little London! NO KEEP AWAY.

The way the disease is developing here is following exactly the same trajectory as in Italy, only we are approx 14days behind them. And it’s not just old people that are dying, it is however the older that die first, hence the early numbers make people think this is an old persons disease. It’s not, and people are dying young with no underlying medical conditions! The majority of people will get mild symptoms and recover fully. The government want people to be scared as it helps the social distancing policy. Two seemingly healthy people I work with, both self isolated two weeks ago and one ended up in hospital, she is in her late 20's

Take a look at what Italian doctors are saying, plenty of fit healthy youngsters getting hospitalised, of those that are, it's nearly 50-50 if you live or die. lancer425
My Brother is married to an American, but Italian decent. He speaks Italian and understands what their saying. On sky last week he interpreted it as if some of the young had not had treatment they would have died. Whick kind of adds up to the claim they were letting old die. I do not know if this is true or not. But i think we must try to flatten this curve, and i think if we get this in two weeks time, we might be at serious risk of no room at the inn"No respirators" . I am not paranoid or morbid, but we are looking at a huge problem here. I understand completely why the governments play down this, but i think we must face facts some of us wont be here and very soon.
