That was something else and way behind our wildest dreams .

There must be loads of the older Escorts owner on the forum and I have had at least three that I can remember , two of them were estates and very reliable work horses , couldn't really fault them and fairly easy to maintain .

If you had one , How did you find it ??

I didn’t joint the Escort club till later,

Had a MK3 red Y reg XR3i, then a MK4 black D reg XR3i.

Loved both of them, really wanted a MK2 RS2000,

Also hankered after a MK4 RS Turbo.

Sister had an orange N reg MK1 1300e.

Other sisters b/f had a MK3 red x reg XR3.

Ran a Mark 1 Escort for several years over rural roads and farm tracks in the area between Banff and Tomintoul.   Very basic 1100cc model, bought s/h in reasonable condition, previously owned by a kirk minister.  Generally went well.  Needed a couple of bags of sand in the boot when the roads were icy.  Heater was very effective (much appreciated in that part of the world).

Strut tops rusted, but I welded them up myself – in those days you could buy a BOC Portapak + bottles and take them away with no questions asked, for less than the cost of having the job done at a garage.   The only other repair needed was one rear wheel bearing.

Only sold it because it because I had the offer of an old but immaculate Saab 99.

Loved them until I drove the mk1 focus, then it dawned on me how bad they really where 😂..

Only good thing is they were 2 a penny and could be baught for peanuts. I had loads if mk3s and 4s, one Mk2 pop. Best was a mk4 ghia, boot lid wouldn't lock so it would bounce open at speeds above 70.

Had a few orions as well. Old Mk2 granada, mk3 as well.

Never been big into Fords but had a couple of escorts. A mk2 RS1800 that was rally spec and a RS1600i. Not sure what mk that was but it was the XR3i shape.

Both were fun with more power than the car could really handle.
