fatchap
I am coming toward the end of my self isolation which I am on SSP. My work has closed for the duration, not sure when we return but boss has said we will be paid. Anyone know how this scheme works. Does my employer continue to pay us flat rate every friday or do we have to claim it from the govt or does he pay as normal and claims it off the govt? Is it true during this scheme you do not pay NI or Tax? Just that my employer makes **** Turpin look like a saint and if he can worm out of this he will take full advantage of it. JTaylor91
As far as I know you don’t have to do anything. The employer pays you as normal and they claim it back.
WalkedUp
Employer pays you and reclaims it AFAIK.
Newbie to this
Just remember, that if you work in advance (say work a month and then get paid) and have already worked that, he will owe you full pay for that part, and the 80% part from the day you were put on furlough. Mr.C
I'm on furlough too. Getting full pay up till next payday, 6th April, then at least 80% of salary up to £2500. Up to employer if he can/wants to make up the other 20%. I did nothing and my employer sent me an email outlining the above. I'm not expected to work from home however I must be available to work from another location than usual if called to do so. I heard on the telly that if you are on furlough leave then you are not allowed to do any work for them while on that - although you can take work for another company (i.e. Supermarket Deliveries) May be wrong though

Although as another job will be a technically be a seco d job you will be taxed accordingly. (I believe)
JTaylor91
Is the 80% up to £2,500 on take home pay or pay before tax?

norfolk dumpling
I'm furloughed now - all above more or less correct. 80% of my last 12 months average wages (this was a P/T Zero hrs job) but if I take other employment I have to repay 'furlough' pro data pay. I was feeling slightly guilty about accepting this as I already enjoy two pensions (State and private) but then when you look back and reflect on 50years continuous employment (2 jobs) paying tax at higher rate for many years, paying private healthcare and now supporting one disabled son and two very old and very sick relative I suspect my contribution more than justifies my support from UK Gov. And I suspect I will be paying it back for the rest of my life!
discobob
I posted this as a response to somebody on FB Those that are being bailed out now will be paying for it for the rest of their lives. Those who have always been bailed out will never pay a penny! After this, I think that the main priority for government should be to get the welfare state under control - I know it has been "tried" multiple times but it probably is the biggest drain on our economy. With that under control and proper financial management hopefully there could be some proper "support" can be put in place to help working people in times of national emergency. Eyup - I just saw something fly overheard - it was a pig!!

I accept it would not be popular but it would be fair, minimum cost of living is covered anything extra you work for. My grandad worked until he was in his 80s, a real man. I know that if things go south I will get virtually no support from the government. I have worked all my life bar 3 months prior to joining up, and 1 week after I left the Army. When I got made redundant in the 2002 (which was a really bad time in my line of work) I went out doing agency driving (now taken away by government due to requiring to have some certs for hire or reward) and found a half decent job in 5 weeks (even less when you consider the recruitment process) but with a 20% pay cut. I know that if I lost my job and the economy was up the swannee I would first have to rely on my savings, then have to sell my house or have it re-possessed, and then more than likely end up being forced to take a job stacking shelves or in a fast food outlet. We would loose everything. Hopefully I wouldn't let it come to that. Meanwhile, there are people I know of that are not being affected one iota by all of this going on at the moment. You guessed it - people who have been on benefits long term 😞 Working/Middle class are the back bone of this country and we got sod all for it. Rant🤬 over 😁

WalkedUp
In my area you get free childcare for 0-3 Year olds if you don’t have a job! We have had to suffer from negative salary to bring three boys into this world and maintain productivity by keeping my wife in the workforce. If my wife had left work (and me) she would get free childcare. Talk about a disincentive. These children are the workers who are going to be paying our pensions in a few years. Anyone who says ‘children are a choice’ better not rely on any pensions or investments. The system is completely messed up and needs an overhaul. There has to be no disincentives to work and contribute. I would shovel muck for a living if it paid for the food on the table.
oldypigeonpopper
hello, the only people who will most be financially ok who are having to stay home, are us pensioners/ those all ready on benefits and not needing to claim, and those who have some form of savings to get over from when all shutdown started from march until june when there is suppose to be furlough payments for employed, refunds through tax for self employed that means millions of people in the UK will need to go 3 months on much less income and some nothing, and many cannot afford to save, i am sure on PW many members have children and grandchildren, i for one will be helping my sons if the case need be, i am sure that many on here would do the same, families are important and so are the future generation,
