Orange bush advice please.

I have this orange flowering bush just behind our front wall. When it flowers it's really nice. I have not cut the height for a couple of years so it's flowered but I have trimmed it back away from the wall last year so its not flowered in that area.

I have a few questions for those in the know please.

1/ what is it called?

2/ when is the best time to trim it?

3/ does it flower every year or every other?

Any other advice will be gratefully received.

Picture to follow when I've reduced it in size 🤔

Looks more like Berberis to me

Agreed. It looks like B. darwinii.

It can and should flower every year provided that if it is trimmed back, or even cut hard back, it is done at the right time. The shrub should flower until the end of April and then it should be trimmed or cut back. Like a lot of shrubs it flowers on the incremental growth from the previous year.

Thank you very much, so if I cut it after it's flowered it should flower again next year?
