Walker570
Age. How long has it been there. I was told that if the sheets do not leave your property, no problem. If you need to dispose then it is going to cost. I know of a couple of places where a hole has been dug and sheets buried. Big Rowie
If you can take it off without breaking or scraping it best thing is to bury it in a deep hole failing that need to call specialist in to remove
blackbird
before attempting to remove it get professional advice as it could be highly cancerous. Edited April 11, 2020 by blackbird
ditchman
bear in mind if you bury it on your property ...your property will be deemed as contaminated land our next door neighbor had the same sort of garage....he took it all apart without grinding it...put the sheets aside and they were disposed of correctly at not a great cost... Cawdor118
Spray it with coolant / glycol to stick the fibres together as much as possible, then bag and tag it.
eddoakley
Get a sample tested- literally a few quid. Depending on the results you may need to use a specialist or you may be able to do it yourself. Correct ppe, no cutting amd as few breakages as possible, double bag and seal and then dispose of easily. From that pic I would be surprised if there was no asbestos content. Better safe than sorry. Beware cowboys who will offer to dispose and then just dump it! Edd

Westley78
Definitely looks like asbestos to me but you can buy a test kit online if you want to be sure https://asbestos-surveys.org.uk/product/asbestos-testing-kit/?gclid=CjwKCAjw1cX0BRBmEiwAy9tKHhRiaIctQ6FxzHRsvoO5u2CGc9bAwUJBs73Fdr64GrXv-w5mEqN3SRoC5IUQAvD_BwE Check with your council as they may let you dispose of small amounts of asbestos if it’s double bagged... eggy74
will either be non asbestos or asbestos cement (4% asbestos) only way to tell is to send a sample to a testing lab, (about £10 and not as hard as it sounds) as others have said you can remove it yourself by cutting off the bolt heads fixing it down to the joists and remove the sheets whole, then either store somewhere until you can afford to get rid (preferably double bagged/ wrapped in plastic sheeting). some local tips do accept small amounts of asbestos as long as you can prove is is from your own domestic property and you are not getting rid of it for money/commercially

That is what I did, but with a quite small quantity of asbestos cement board (that had been used to block off an old fireplace). You have to ring the council tip and make an appointment as they only have asbestos qualified staff on hand some days (apparently). No cost, but the did check the bagging and labelling. That was about 4 years ago. I think they only took small quantities as my bag was placed in quite a small locked sealed 'skip' which presumably went for disposal elsewhere when full. Talking to a professional contractor who was pricing up several tons of asbestos at work in the summer, despite all the rigmarole with removal etc, it just ends up tipped in the same landfill as yesterday's crisp bags. Where it then gets run over and smashed up by the dozer!
7daysinaweek
Done my garage roof two years ago with what looks like the same stuff. I went onto my local council borough website, I filled out a form confirming it was not commercial waste. They sent me a letter for my nearest disposal site which dealt with this type of waste with a date and time to attend. No charge for household. I wore full ppe and sprayed my whole garage roof down inside and out and managed to remove the lot with minimal breakages. I double visqueened it as the council would not accept it otherwise. When I arrived on the date and time, i handed them the document, they checked it against my registration and id and waived me through. I had to lob it into the low skip by myself. Bish Bash Bosh job was done. Have a look at your local website. 11 minutes ago, kennett said: Talking to a professional contractor who was pricing up several tons of asbestos at work in the summer, despite all the rigmarole with removal etc, it just ends up tipped in the same landfill as yesterday's crisp bags. figgy
Wet it all with PVA mixed in water. Cut the bolts with croppers and remove without breaking the sheets. Bag and see the council about disposal. Wear a mask and paper overalls so they can be bagged and disposed of. The amount of asbestos is usually low in cement sheets. oldypigeonpopper
hello, do know when the garage was built, pre 1989 was the date that your Asbestos may be the hazardous one, if thats the case it would need to be desposed of in the correct manner

Ratlegs
Ring the waste management at the council I had some the same as the photo Took two trips to the tip with a Pugeot 106 it went into a sealed skip To make it manageable size lay it across a piece of wood and stand on it Damp it to slow the dust This sort dosent cause the panic as much as the other types
mel b3
i think that most local authorities will accept it for free these days , youll just need to follow their advice when dealing with it , just give the council a call.
