Posted April 11, 2020 Report Share Posted April 11, 2020 evening ladies and gents, after everyone else has been making some rather lovely knives and stuff I thought i'd have a go with a few bits and pieces laying around. I have this old kindling chopper, made from what I thought was a leaf spring, it turned out it was originally an old file and was rather hard to machine. Posted April 11, 2020 Author Report Share Posted April 11, 2020 took a grinder to it to get a rough shape, then mounted a belt sander to the bench to flatten off. then wet and dry to get a finer finish and an edge, it was getting fairly sharp by the time I got down to 800 grit. found some zebrano left overs in the shed while I was tidying it all up, also found a bronze sundial plate behind the shed basically got it to this today, the tang and handle are bonded with resin as I didn't have any rod of any description to make pins, they can come later though Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Posted April 11, 2020 Author Report Share Posted April 11, 2020 I've blued the blade, not 100% sure I like it, the gun blue gel was over 10 years old and had gone semi hard, I've diluted it down but it's gone a little patchy. to all extents and purposes it's pretty much done, but I might just get the blade vapour blasted instead, I don't like shiny blades.
