Slugs

Another potential problem with high friction slugs is that they can put more stress on firing cycle of a pcp .

So the orings and valves .springs etc are put under greater pressures .

Ive seen this on my mates wildcat fac when he turned to power up to drive the slugs at a reasonable speed .the extra pressure build up before the slug started to move (friction) blew us breech seal oring out a few times .

He had to lower the power to stop it .then the slug was going too slow to be accurate  .

I know there is another thread in this section that veered onto 'slugs', but the main topic was FAC air.

As this thread is about sub 12, and I hope the two power levels don't get blurred, this new 'super slug/pellet' looks like it will only shoot best through a limited amount of barrels/liners,,,, according to some peoples findings.

So basically, you can't just buy them, fire them, a bit of tweaking and they'll be as accurate as you need them. A very very limited market I think, in all power variants 🤔

I'll just stick to the diablo design thanks,,,, but it will be interesting to see if the 'wheel' can be reinvented 🤓

Pork chop,,,, you originally asked this question, so I'm responding to this, ie sub 12 🙂 And I've quoted stu above to highlight a possible (guess?) issue 🤔

I'm talking sub 12, as pork chop asked in his opening post 😉

Not interested in fac power,,,, never going to go there as I don't need to 🙂

TBH, if slugs, or any other different pellet design/option, worked well, I'd give them a go.

I thought they were just used in fac

but seen a couple of posts regards their use in sub 12 .Did find some but at £18 per 100 I’ll be sticking to jsb heavies for now

Like I said,,,, trying to reinvent the wheel 😏 And I'm sure that even at fac levels, they aren't going to suit all barrels/liners. So in my opinion, why bother ?

I know it's probably called 'progress', or an attempt at least, but things only progress if they work in all potential uses 😇

But they are working ?

So, you've seen a "couple of posts regards their use in sub12",,,,,

,,,,, and you say they are working ? And at the extortionate cost you won't be buying any 🤔 I'm even more convinced to steer well clear 😁

Possibly .but its the huge contact surface area thats the issue

Remember  a pellet has a very narrow head contact and skirt contact areas .

This is to reduce friction and make the guns more efficient .meaning more  shots and a less stressed firing cycle .

Also if you make the slug too narrow then you will get blow pass reducing the velocity. Its a VERY fine line to walk .

Cost more than shotgun carts, madness total pee take for a small piece of swaged lead.

Totally agree. The move towards slugs rather than pellets is a specialist target shooters thing is it not?

I can't see me moving to slugs. I've just ordered a FAC .25 FX Crown  which should be with me fairly shortly. My Daystate was getting old and.....such and such.

For the life of me I can't see me moving to slugs? Why would I do such a thing? The Crown will be an honest vermin gun out to about 90 yards. Small British pests in the optics no racoons in the sightline !!
