nesting shelducks

ive got a pair of shelducks turned up on the farm itts 3miles from the river wear near chester le street so its a fair way to the sea does any one know if they would nest in such a place if anyone had said such a thing 50 years ago i would not believe it as it was all pit heaps but now its arable land surounded by woods

Didn't know you had them in the UK. We have a species in NZ: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise_shelduck

It has game bird status, but can be a pest to farmers. They are often found in paddocks close to water troughs. They are an interesting sporting species. If you miss them the first time, they will circle round more often than not and let you have another go!
