aister
Any hints or tips or homemade formulas to clean moderators? Cleaning my wildcat moderator is my most hated job, how do you guys do it?

London Best
You have to CLEAN moderators???
WalkedUp
I admit I don’t clean the inside of my moderators. I know a dirty moderator is more likely to deteriorate but I’ve not noticed any problems in mine, I don’t expect them to last forever but I have some that are very old and still in use. On lamping guns or after a wet day I remove the moderator after use so everything can be oiled, but that’s about it.

aister
I had an ASE moderator for a while that I used on my .223 and 6.5x55, it couldn't come apart to clean. Once when out stalking some crud came out of the moderator and fell into the chamber as I was loading the gun, this resulted in me not being able to close the bolt. That put an end to the stalking until I got back to where I was staying and cleaned the gun. As soon as I could I got rid of the ASE and bought a wildcat so that I could take it apart and clean. Walker570
Mut be a terribly complicated action for a piece of 'crud' to prevent it working or not be able to be cleared there and then. Are you sure it came out of the moderator?
aister
It was definitely out of the mod, to end up with if I shook the mod over the worktop bits of black build up would come out, some bits as big as 2-3mm, bits that size can easily stop a cartridge from chambering. WalkedUp
I think some pals use the ultrasonic cleaners (that they also use for reloading) for the baffles etc when dismantled. They are very obsessive people however 🤣
