BBC Health Correspondent Positive Antibody Test

So the BBC's health correspondent, Fergus Walsh, has tested positive for antibodies to corona (carried out as part of a report on antibody testing) and has therefore had corona without knowing it.

However  he still seems unable to make the mental leap that this virus has been knocking around long before the 'first case', and that as per the Oxford university study, a very large percentage of the UK is likely to have already had it, without even knowing it.

As I understand it has been confirmed that this has been around since at least last October and they are testing archived samples to see if it goes back much further.

I know that we are now in this Orwellian moment where no one can offer up any criticism of the NHS or the medical profession but it strikes me that the various professors, doctors and specialists should have know more about this by now and shouldn’t have been either shocked or overwhelmed in March. I underline that with the fact that if you end up in the Krankenhaus with this all they can do is hook you to O2 or to a ventilator and then it’s up to you.

In other news in the States they are saying that they are concerned that the medical trials of various Covid treatments will have to be put on hold because they don’t have enough people with Covid to run the trials.

I do wonder what the history books will make of all of this.

Worldwide mass hysteria, a media that can force political action through sensationalism, a people willing and happy  to surrender century's fought for freedoms, state control over the people on a scale never before seen as we have to accept whatever is thrown at us in the financial depression.

There is an ex Coronation Street actor who absolutely believes he had it in September, coincidentally in York where the first case was officially identified.

He ended up in hospital and says he thought he was going to die. He should be given an antibody test as a matter of urgency.

I agree with all of that.

You only have to look at the entirely un-used Nightgale hospital being quietly packed up to realise this isn’t what was originally feared or so expertly modelled. The government can’t call time and get us back to normal (our old normal) because they originally over committed to the crisis and the media have everyone whipped into a total frenzy.

And as for the news - I’ve stopped watching because there has been no non-Covid news since March. You just can’t find f all about anything else going on in the world, it’s all 24/7 rabid Covid sensationalism.

Statistically highly improbable to anyone under 65 who isn’t already on a wobbly wicket.

Couldn’t agree more. I stopped watching the news weeks ago, for this very reason; unfortunately I may have to treat this forum in the same way and for the same reason. 🙂

I genuinely think there are those amongst who need to get out a bit more, and therefore lead a more normal ‘offline’ rather than ‘online‘ existence.

I think that would just cause more confusion. Half the people would argue it proves covid 19 was around in September. While the other half would just argue that he could have caught it at anytime since September and just not shown symptoms.

How long do hospitals keep blood samples, could retesting samples from September be an option.

The news media has to be responsible, and especially in times like this. The constant heckling style peess bombardment of governments over their handling of this virus worldwide, is if  accurate or inaccurate wrongly timed in the midst of this epidemic.

It has the potential to be demoralising at best, and potentially could cause social instability in the extreme.

Freedom of speech is all well and good, But the sensationalistic reporting  on scant facts is  irritating, and pointless. More people are repulsed by the News media’s approach to this pandemic than are enamoured   by it.

The sooner the media wake up to the fact, if they reported more real facts , their appeal would be greater.
