Blake segs great for sparks when on your bike.

For adding to your worn down heels if you couldn't afford to get the heels tipped.

Came in all shapes and sizes, we also used drawing pins. The clack clack of segs or heel tips were great.

Don't think segs would work in modern molded shoes with open squares in the heels.

Went on a school trip to the Lakes about '58 and my parents had purchased a pair of really nice strong brogue shoes for all the walking we would do. Problem was it was like ice skating, no grip at all.  Called in at the cobblers in Keswick and he put me a whole arrangement of those and some single studs in the shoes and problem solved. Parents not at all happy when I got back though.

Yep segs remember getting lines off headmaster of junior school many times for having them ones in the heel and one in the toe of the sole of my rider boots also had the smaller wedge shaped one around the outside of sole all way round ... they were banned from our school as they destroyed the Victorian wooden floor ...

Ahh those were the days .....wet the leather really well prior to hammering them in on a last watched over by my grandad (who was a cobbler)
