Staining to action...sanitiser ?

Hi guys

Been out doing a few Clay's. I used a browning 525 sporter 2016 model that has very little use. Cleaned the gun within a couple of hours of the shoot. I noticed the shiny chrome finish to parts of the action had changed to a dull greyish colour. It's not a radical change but quite obvious when you look closely. The ground I shot today was very well organised and had copious amounts of sanitiser on every stand. I used it regularly as I was operating  the promatic trap system as a lone shooter.

Just wondering if the sanitiser contains additives that react with the finish on the action. I cant definitely say the sanitiser is the problem but just thought I would post to see if others had had a simillar issue . Or if not sanitiser, could something else have affected the finish.

Thanks

Wear takes off the finish on the silver actions of Browning/Miroku guns over time, usually starts on the bottom edges. You see tarted up guns which have been totally polished off to hide the amount of use they`ve had. Dont know if the sanitiser will accelerate this though.

Quite feasible that some sanitizers may also contain a percentage of a mild organic acid. Problem is there have been all sorts of 'entrepreneurs ' making the stuff.

Also it's not wear, one part of the action as a distinct blotch like a finger mark and that's what started raising my suspicions.

I have known insect repellent do the same thing, especially to fishing glasses. I now apply the stuff at home before going out to avoid it getting onto my gear. Maybe some gloves would have prevented any damage to your gun  ?       🤔

That's DEET murder to plastic also the coating on camera lenses. The sanitizer would not contain DEET without a warning. It's nasty stuff.
