Cosmicblue
Got fuel for the car yesterday - every pump had a sign regarding social distancing and a plea to use 'Pay at Pump', fair enough. Pay at Pump is super easy to use so whilst I filled the beast with juice I was noticed that all the other customers ignored the request and went into the kiosk to pay. Begs a couple of questions: 1) Are Pay at Pump facilities hard to use? 2) Is it just an indication that the majority are spectacularly stupid? Answers on a postcard I guess. Dougy
Why cant you sanitize the buttons while also sanitizing your hands ?
Okrang
Pay at Pump facilities have now become a firm favourite site for card skimming fraudsters now that they are being so heavily used. This makes paying inside more of an attractive option for me!

The only time I'm wearing gloves or glove, is getting fuel and using pay at pump, I see no reason why the garages can't use the kiosk window? I have never seen it used. Not seen any 'contactless' pay at the pump round here, but I haven't bought fuel since February, and my 'normal' garage didn't do 'pay at the pump' then. They do do Apple pay (not at the pump), but I never know what the limit (£) allowed is. I have had Apple pay turned down for other things - presumably for being over the maximum allowed, but you never know in advance whether it will work or not for higher value transactions. I think that may be 'Apples' limit .......... but some stores apply their own limits; I believe Morrison's is £100. Certainly mine worked OK at about £90 - but was declined at £120. WalkedUp
The (VAT) receipt machine often doesn’t work on pay-at-pump, which is a pain if I am using my company card as it needs to be logged. If they can’t provide a receipt in the kiosk I use my personal card instead. Also if I’m on the road I will grab some food from Shell (decent pasties, Costa coffee, roast hog sausage roll etc). I probably my use pay at pump 4 out of 5 times as I’m mainly using personal miles or in a rush, but can see scenarios when it is not convenient to do so. A man I know who shoots runs a cafe and always pays for fuel in his truck with a wad of £5 notes, can’t imagine why 🤣
tiny tim
As above. I pay at pump to save going into the shop ,only for the pump to fail to print receipt I then have to wait to get a receipt in the shop
Fisheruk
Never use Pay at the Pump, and never stop at the automatic forecourts, I reclaim the VAT on my fuel and the pain of trying to get a VAT receipt when the pump malfunctions is just not worth the aggravation. Not being able to recover a sixth of the total cost is more important than finding an outlet that is selling one or two pence a litre cheaper is nothing in comparison to not recovering the VAT. loriusgarrulus
I always used pay at pump before COVID-19 when it was available. I like the fact I can pay, pump and away. No queuing in the kiosk. No having to lock the car up to go and pay. No temptation from all the chocolate bars.

You can't blame them for a bit of card skimming, they probably needed the money for food, due to the austerity caused by the government and lack of empathy by wider society. Just be glad that your money is now being used for good 👍
