LOP query

How do you properly measure your LOP?

Without that nonsense of putting it in the crook of your arm.

I have a SP that’s 14 3/4 just the way it came and I shoot it very well...

Recently bought a SxS that’s the same length, took it out and shot very well also :)

I shot my mates Maxus yesterday that is 14 1/4 LOP from the factory and I also shot that very well ... even with a tight choke (3/4) in.

So how do I know which LOP is best? 14 1/4 or 3/4 ...

If LOP is too long will the gun shoot low? Or high?

thanks

Impossible to answer remotely. Gun fit being made up of various aspects it is not possible to take one in isolation. In view of this, a good answer is that the correct LoP for you on any given gun is that which enables you to shoot well and in comfort.

On most guns  the stock will drop progressively from the comb to the heel. Consequently, the longer the stock the greater the drop so the lower (all things being equal) you'd shoot.

And therefore, if too short you'd shoot high?

I always thought LOP was measured from the crook of the trigger to the heel of the butt pad.
I wouldn’t know how to measure your own personally ideal LOP.

I assume pattern the gun and see if it shoots high or low 👍🏻

On the gun LOP is measured from the trigger to the centre of the butt, not the heel, but a gun fitter will likely give three measurements to ctr, heel and toe.

In view of the first sentence on my last post, I don't want to be here.

But, 1. that would be the tendency

        2.  To the heel, centre and toe. If you're self-helping, mounting the gun wearing spring/autumn clothing and look for 2 or 3 fingers between the back of your hand and your nose. Ultimately, the deciding factor for the LoP is the length of your neck

       3. But which will you have to correct, the LoP or the drop as either/both will affect your PoI
