wishy735
Know that title would get your attention! I have split the shaft on my hammer and need a replacement also the cleats that secure the head. Try as I might I just can not seem to find one. It's a 1 lb Stanley ballpeen shaft length 13 3/4 ". Those are the only markings on the head. It has been in my possession for 35 years and was second hand then. I know I could just buy a new one but that isn't my style. So anyone got any ideas? Walker570
I know Mole Valey farmers used to stock all manner of spare shafts for hammers to scythes etc etc. Do Mole come across as far as your neck of the woods. I know they are at Stamford as I called today. Alternatively get a goodly straight piece of ash and fettle your own. Proper hardware stoes normally stock the cleats to drive in the head. PM me if you cannot find one and I will have words with my local tool store which is an Alladins cave, easy to pop one in the post. Personally I would just fettle one from a nice piece of ash. Not rocket science.
Gordon R
Shame the OP isn't nearer. A shooting friend is a bit of a hammer nut. He has put more shafts on hammers than you can point a stick at. He would have done it as a freebie.
Walker570
Just googled "replacement hammer shafts" and up came a plethora of suppliers and also wedges too. Both ash and hickory and not a kings ransom either. Have a look.
