Polecats aren't rare around here, see them quite regularly. Often dead ones on the roads too.

I have caught several in traps and let them all go. Yes they do stink!!

Only ever seen a mink once, black as coal and that really was fearless.

Need to be careful with "old Hanratty" as they can be a vessel of disease! Use a grabber if you need t pick them up.

I worked as a Mink trapper for several years. It was apparent that a mink's favoured den would be a rat hole after they had eaten or evicted the late owner, my terriers would find dens and then it was an easy job to dig in a baited trap in the adjacent area, The traps were then left there for "perhaps" years and baited and checked at intervals, working for 5 days we would bait and check approx 30-40 traps per day per person, then close the trap line and move onto another close by..easily the best job its possible to have..😉
