39TDS
Polecats aren't rare around here, see them quite regularly. Often dead ones on the roads too. I have caught several in traps and let them all go. Yes they do stink!! Only ever seen a mink once, black as coal and that really was fearless. Rim Fire
Out of all the mustelids i think Mink smell the worst when we used to hunt them and you get one in a bank or a pile of stones even up a tree they climb like squirrels they absolutely stink
Robertt
Used to see the occasional Polecat in Wales in the headlights. Never seen one a in daytime. There a couple of american chaps use mink and dogs for ratting on Youtube. Very impressive.

Need to be careful with "old Hanratty" as they can be a vessel of disease! Use a grabber if you need t pick them up.
islandgun
I worked as a Mink trapper for several years. It was apparent that a mink's favoured den would be a rat hole after they had eaten or evicted the late owner, my terriers would find dens and then it was an easy job to dig in a baited trap in the adjacent area, The traps were then left there for "perhaps" years and baited and checked at intervals, working for 5 days we would bait and check approx 30-40 traps per day per person, then close the trap line and move onto another close by..easily the best job its possible to have..😉 further info https://www.nature.scot/professional-advice/land-and-sea-management/managing-wildlife/hebridean-mink-project Edited June 24, 2020 by islandgun
