JDog
Good picture. I don't believe I have ever seen one. I picked up the term 'ratching' when I lived in Cumbria.

Walker570
Have not seen one for well over 60yrs and then they where not common. Fascinating things as Mice says, saw this one the other day at the base of an oak tree, reminded me of a nice omelette. They start life looking like jelly eggs which can be eaten before the horn appears Edited July 1, 2020 by martinj

If you unknowingly eat the old bits you wont do it again ... 🤮

db135
I’ve only ever seen one before. I smelt it before I saw it. I honestly thought there was a dead rotten sheep about. The smell was horrible when I got close to it for a look  there was loads flies all over the end off it 🤮
