ferguson_tom
Me and the good lady have managed to sneak a couple of days away next week without the kids, I have to go Dartmoor to collect something for work so tagging it onto this journey. Looking at anywhere on the south coast so Salcombe, Brixham, Paignton, Torquay, Darmouth etc. We dont know the area so would appreciate some suggestions, we are not bothered about the beach but like the coast and watching the boats etc, we plan on spending the days drinking coffee in a nice cafe till about 12.00 go shopping for a couple of hours then sit in the pub until dinner time. Basically doing the things we cant do with two young kids!
Gordon R
The old part of Teignmouth is okay and I do like Brixham. Old fashioned harbour with a nice atmosphere. I could not recommend Torquay - hate the place. Paignton has little to recommend it too.
strimmer_13
My sister lives in Paignton, and I was there just last weekend. As gordon says not a lot there but the surrounding areas are lovely. I can sit for hours watching the porpoises 👍
amateur
We had a good holiday in East Charleton, in between Salcombe and Slapton Sands, when our daughters were teenagers. Quiet, relaxing. The girls were less than complimentary about the local talent at the village hop!
wymberley
You could try Exmouth. It'll cater for all of your needs as described. Just a couple of minutes from the M5 and the A 30 or 38 for a pleasant drive to the 'moor depending on which side you're heading for. Also, Exeter is close with better shopping than the towns mentioned which should appeal to 'er indoors.
shooterman49
Try Brixham, plenty of boats to watch as it's a commercial harbour. Plenty of trawlers coming and going plus a marina with loads of yachts/pleasure boats to watch. Lovely walks around the harbour and marina and the breakwater and then out to Berry head. Plenty of good quality cafes and restaurants and pubs. Next door across a scenic river crossing is Dartmouth. Gives you easy access to beesands and slapton and further down to kingsbridge

Wymondley
Torcross, check out the Sherman tank memorial in the car park then eat fish n chips on the sea wall with a pint from the pub next door. Drive the tidal road at Aveton Gifford (at low tide), then on to Bigbury on sea and ride the sea tractor to Burgh Island (at high tide). Salcombe and Kingsbridge for shops. wymberley
Good choices. As you are filtering right to turn off right to drop down into Simouth, note well the Bowd Inn on your left.
