NorfolkAYA Posted July 18, 2020 Report Share Posted July 18, 2020 So for last few weekends mainly Friday's a house not to far from me (who is a dj) has parties. I mean like ibiza style parties. He's no doser, quite a posh estate to be honest. But last night it came to blows. Midnight they were on the karoke, which woke my lad up petrified. I thought enough is enough, went round and told them to stop, along with another neighbour that joined. Sure they did turn the music off. However roll onto 2:30 they were up and down the road changing **** the neighbours. My blood was boiling. My sister is a police officer and reckons noise disturbance is a council issue? Any ideas? Spr1985 Posted July 18, 2020 Report Share Posted July 18, 2020 Your sister is quite correct noise disturbance is a civil matter and the police won’t do anything about it unless a breach of the peace occurs (comes to blows literally) these things are dealt with via the local environmental health department (or at least it is in Essex) they normally have an out of hours number and team that will go round and deal with the issue, in my experience quite quickly. As the alcohol goes down the noise is going up . WalkedUp Posted July 18, 2020 Report Share Posted July 18, 2020 My proper advice would be to think of your FAC/SGC and move area. Having said that some of us are just not social beasts. I have little patience. I’ve moved to an area where my neighbours are fields and some old people, but even still I feel my heckles go up. My retired next door neighbour was upset that I have to do DIY on a Sunday (work 5 days, shoot Saturday), normally gardening but very occasionally drills etc. I built a fence between us and painted her side (for free) when she again gave me grief about working on a Sunday, I explained my view she didn’t agree. She moved, we are both happier. My other neighbour knocked on my door after 11pm (dogs, three children asleep) without calling ahead over some trivial matter and so I gave them a dressing down and they have been frosty ever since. Suits me 🤣 Even more extreme, I was on a project in Wales and a farmer was complaining about his disruptive next door neighbour (over 1/2 mile away) to my client (the land owner), it was hard to empathise. The house next door is council owned and What they didn’t tell us when they dropped it off is they had informed there tenant what was going on. How useful is that. crossy 666 Posted July 18, 2020 Report Share Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) They said they need proof and because they tell the neighbour when we have had the machine installed on the two occasions the neighbour just behaves and as soon as it’s gone there back to being in there hot tub till 3am singing and drinking with loud music playing and smoking drugs. The council have admitted to us there reluctant to kick her out because she is arrears with her rent and if they kick her out they won’t get it. This woman has never done a days work in her life and sleeps all day then drinks and dose drugs all night. She makes her money by being on her back with different men coming and going at all times. DoolinDalton Posted July 18, 2020 Report Share Posted July 18, 2020 Have you tried talking to him when he's normal/sober / at a reasonable time of the day and explaining how the noise from his parties are affecting your son / you / the other neighbours. Maybe say that you know that the lockdown has stopped people from socialising and now it's over, 'he' / your noisy neighbour, is enjoying his freedom again.... which is fine....but it's having an adverse effect on your family and neighbours and you'd appreciate it if he could tone it down and perhaps finish at a reasonable hour (before midnight!). Failing that, I'd go on the offensive and use every dirty trick in the book, which should make him move asap! I should have been a Diplomat...NOT! NoBodyImportant Posted July 18, 2020 Report Share Posted July 18, 2020 Neighbor across the street is a professional alcohol drag racer and runs his 1100hp car up and down the street and the other neighbor flys his helicopter in and out and it will shake the house. We literally have a private airport not far from my house but he like last to keep in behind his house. Moral of the story I built a gun range behind my house and nobody calls the cops. We all have a understanding that It Is What Is! At any giving moments you can go outside and see people riding dirt bike, shooting skeet, or running race cars up street and nobody complains. If that is the case then: 1) Report her to the Council for use of the premises for business purposes as a "massage parlour". 2) Report her to HMRC for undeclared earnings and to the Department of Work and Pensions if she is on benefits for, again, undeclared earnings. 3) Speak to the police and also mention the "story" to the Sunday newspaper red-top papers. Taileron Posted July 19, 2020 Report Share Posted July 19, 2020 The council route with a noise complain was what I previously had to do with a neighbour who continually came back from the boozer, smashed out of his head and started playing death metal at 2AM waking the kids and generally ruining our lives. Many times I asked/told them to keep the noise down and was told to **** O**. The police were utterly useless, they arrived, the noise went down, they left it began again. The council did a 6 week noise survey, which we had to make extensive notes and they served some type of enforcement order, which did nothing. The issue was finally solved my my other neighbour, age 68, ex bantamweight boxer who finally had enough, fists nearly did fly and heavy metal man was given an ultimatum. We had this in our first house, it actually made me ill and it drove us to move... even now 15 years later i am very sensitive to any kind of intrusive music/tv noise to the point where a young couple moving in next to our last house- a semi made up our minds about moving again to a detached. Dougy Posted July 19, 2020 Report Share Posted July 19, 2020 I think we have all had a fair share of funny neighbors, we have had dogs barking 7-8 hrs a day, party next door, (every weekend for weeks) weightlifting at 04.30. I am pretty amicable over these issues, have a chat and try and get them to understand, in a nice way, then if that doesn't work we look at alternatives. 9 out of 10 times it resolves the issues. Council will inform your DJ and offer advice on keeping down the noise etc its a formal letter that goes out to any noise complaints, keep a diary (honest and strict) of the noise issues then give this to the council. They will then give you a recording device that you arm by pressing a button, that records for a given time, registering length and decibel. Its a long process though, and dont be too frightened about having a firearm ticket, it does not require you to be a woosy bend over and take it and let every man and beast to treat you like a piece of dung.
