243 Rifle Barrel

Having a chat elsewhere with a mate and I can't find the info' that I'm after. Am I right in thinking that strictly speaking the Subject calibre should be illegal for use on deer in the UK? This is because the 243 is the exception to the rule and because of this is actually .238 and therefore under the .240 required because in this case the calibre is taken differently from the norm. I'm sure that this was mentioned on PW back along but I can't find it.

I don't think we need to concern ourselves, it's just one of those quirky facts.

Thanks, Scobydog. Yep, the 243 is given the rifling cut depth diameter as its calibre whereas every other calibre refers to the bore.

Every other calibre refers to the bore?

Except those that don’t!

How about .308? Or  .458? Just for a start!

There is no hard and fast rule.
