Plumbing Question

Recommended Posts

Yes, easy fix. The diaphragm will have a split in ti so won’t create the syphon to pull the water down. You can make a new diaphragm out of some thick plastic bag/sack and use the old one as a template. Plenty of YouTube videos to help you out.
cheers

In the meantime the lavatory bowl itself cares not where the water that flushes it comes from. So a bucket of water poured in with force will also flush the lavatory for you. I did this in my house when it was unoccupied and the water cut off. It was a bit of a nuisance bringing water to the place everyday (four old four litre plastic milk containers were used) but empty them in a bucket pour that with force into the bowl and it flushed well enough.

If it's close coupled and more than a few years old chances are the wing nuts will be rust welded onto the spindles and turn the top squares as you try to undo them, just one of the many joys of plumbing.

The people who designed those things never had to maintain them , that's for sure.

Worth noting if you have to replace them that stainless ones are readily available.

Hello, that sounds a good idea John

I used these from Amazon "Viva Sanitary PP0021 Cistern To WC Pan Bolt Through Kit - Stainless Steel"

So far looking very good - not trace of corrosion - and been installed over 12 months now.
