Oak and brass priest

I thought I'd have a go making a priest.

So I found a dry (ish) oak branch and had go at turning something.

Now I dont have a wood lathe,  so I improvised, using my bench grinder.

So any regular wood turners out there will be mortified at the abomination I'm going to show you!

But the result was pretty good,  I'm happy with it.

More pics to follow......

So to put a bit of weight at the tip, I got an old bit of brass I found while walking the dog. I'm not sure but think it might be the safety cap from a mortar?  I find quite a few of these while out with the dog.  It polished up really nice.

The cartridge base in the bottom has special meaning to me, It was the first ever fox I shot.

A bit of Danish oil to finish it off, not too shabby i hope. Just  need a leather strap to put through as a lanyard.

That is a good looking and functional priest.

It just goes to show what can be achieved with a bit of imagination, both the method and the result.

Thanks for sharing and makes me want to try something similar and like you without a lathe.
