Home Insurance renewal

The above is almost due for me, and my renewal quote was too much as far as I was concerned. I went on a comparison website and the cheapest quote, with the same cover was a lot cheaper. But, because I tried to make a claim for water damage to my floor, but the claim was rejected, the premium went up by £43:00. Still cheaper that my existing insurance, but still annoying.

Existing customers are treated as lazy mugs who can't be bothered to shop around by most utility and insurance companies these days.

I've become a go compare type and am quids in across insurance, broadband, mobile etc.

Yes, I went with 'Go Compare', as I've had holiday insurance via them in the past. I now qualify for the 'Sleepy Oleg' toy, that apparently is selling for up to £50. I did sell a toy a few years back for £40 to a 'collector'. I'll be selling the new one too.

Our Neighbours had an extension done and one of the builders dropped a brick down a drain - next time we had heavy rain their front garden flooded (about 3" water) -  next time our Insurance was due (has there ever been a flood within 50 metres of your home) our premium was increased by ............£600. Told them to shove it.

The way I look at insurance now it is a necessity for when the worst happens. They find any excuse to raise the premium nowadays and are even refusing to insure people in some areas. Any claim that you make will generally cause the premium to go up (above the loyalty punishment increase) so they claw that money back over 3-5 years irrespective of the previous 10 years you didn't claim anything and you was money in the bank.

Ditch and Switch is the name of the game.
