Surprise!

Local gun shops in big game areas tend to stock the big game calibres.

Amazing really just looking through some old threads on here and surprised at how many times members can’t get wildfowling cartridges in this country

however have your gun built travel to Africa and enjoy the hunting not spend time looking for it or finding a make that dosent suit your gun and require 20 shots to re zero or won’t zero at all

but what would I know

Oh come on, really, is it that hard to understand?

The more specialised your choice of weapon the less likely you are to find the relevant supplies away from where they get used!

A great photo - one round expended! I've tried a 470, the recoil was stout! Have you ever fired it prone?!

Not prone sitting is enough 😗it’s a gun to carry in dangerous game areas and suits as I can have a solid in the left barrel and a expanding in the right

ive fired the 416 prone a few times and wouldn’t recommend it to the feint  hearted

Interesting thread. I am looking to apply for something bigger to take to Africa along with my 30-06. My next trip, if I am spared, I hope to shoot an Eland then eventually a Buffalo. 375H&H is the obvious choice but I really want a 404 Jeffery, so I am saving the penny's and looking for a nice old 404 or failing that have one built.

Get the .404, that's a truly classy calibre! You only live once. Contact your PH to see what they can get hold of and match up with things you can source here too. Get them to order a box of something that works in good time before your trip. Ammo problem solved even if it is lost.

The only species I have an interest in is buffalo at the moment. I really need to get out and shoot one. For now I'm just trying to concentrate on regular range visits to put a few rounds down the rifle so it's nice and familiar. I'm about at the stage I'd be happy to deer stalk with it so I've got a way to go before a buff hunt!

Just wondering why the term "Dangerous game calibres in the uk" and not "Large calibre game guns in the uk" was the heading.

Isnt the point of any calibre to be dangerous to the intended recipient, what ever that is?

I took the title to read the ‘Dangerous game’ as the quarry not the calibre of the rifle.

Always used to be known as large game weapons. Weapons for large game!

with apologies to the Two Ronnie's and the 4 candles sketch!

I guess you could look at it like that! .375 is the minimum legal calibre for dangerous game in many African countries so a dangerous game calibre is something equal to or bigger than that. Just as you would refer to a .243 or above as a "deer calibre" rifle here.

As for 4 bores, I'm not so sure about that! You wouldn't catch me firing one!
