All NV is limited in some way. Digital NV image degrades with air moisture as the IR is deflected. The smaller the objective lens the quicker this occurs. The smaller the light gathering objective the more IR you will need for range.  The more IR you put out the greater the likelihood of a target response. The objective on the 4k is not so large but it works well in clear air giving a good picture at range with decent IR.

The very best IR is probably the Sirius laser from Ian Sirrel IR light builds but there are others.

what do you mean work ok in dry air

Imagine your headlights in fog, the more moisture/humidity in the air, even if its not really visible to your eye, gets amplified by the IR camera/torch combo.

Does the ABL work as it should ?
Yes , as long as you put the correct info in, you may need to tweak BC s ect and do some real world testing.

It all really depends on what youre sticking it on, but mine on a .223 works perfectly, and theres really nothing out there to challenge the 4K / ABL combo.
If you arent bothered with the range finding/ballistic computer aspect, get a Pard 008 and save yourself £400.
Or if you want to KNOW  the range but dont need the Ballistic computer, get the LRF version and save yourself £150.
Image wise , between the two , theres not much in it, with the 4K slightly better IMHO.

But , the mounts for the 4K are standard 30mm , so you can have a rock solid system with fairly normal eye relief, something the Pard sadly lacks.

IR wise the supplied ones with both are pants, the Pard used to be pretty good, but the new ones have been neutered.
Invest in a decent laser torch if you want to get the best out of both units.
Solaris, Sirius, PBIRL, are all good , I personally use the Wraith +
