Sat sitting, dog on knee in a palatial hide this morning, nary a bird in sight🤭

I was thinking about the ruler straight branches of a Silver Birch by my side, some well over 6' long and the perfect diameter for walking sticks or thumb sticks.

How good is Silver Birch for walking sticks? If so when is the best time to cut?

Dont be put off I have some silver birch stick that have been made around twelve years ago and these still look as good as new...

Of course the other thing is if you find a young plantation you often find then with some nice twist due to honeysuckle...
