Drilling glass

Automobile glass has been tempered to be shatterproof (breaks into ice cube like crumbs rather than sharp shards) for a long time. It is for the safety of passengers, pedestrians and the emergency services. As soon as your drill breaks the surface tension on the glass by cutting in then my bet would be the whole thing crumbles.

Car glass gets cut all the time, go buy a diamond cutter of the size hole you want, cut a hole in a but if wood so the hole cutter is snug fitting. Some small dabs of hot glue,  or double sided tape the wood to the glass. Put diamond cutter in a drill and start drilling with light pressure and keep a little water running on the cut. It will go through easily.  Remove wood scrape glue or tape off with sharp blade. The edges of the hole may still be sharp, a diamond file can take the sharp edge off or some edge protection or grommet.
