Just wondering where we stand as of boxing day the whole of mainland scotland will be in tier 4 ,so pretty much in lockdown

So my question is can driven game shooting continue?

I've found conflicting advice online but to my knowledge shooting stopped in England during the 3 week lockdown in November

Thanks

I am waiting to hear from BASC Scotland but my understanding is it’s okay if you only travel within your local authority area.

This I believe is the latest on tier 4 from Scotgov. It depends how you read it. If the informal preceeds only exercise, argue driven shooting is okay. If it applies to exercise and sport it’s not. You really need to see what advice we get as whilst I deal with regulatory matters for a living I struggle to be certain about anything this government publishes on COVID, as you can see from my arguments.

You are permitted to meet others outdoors, following the rules around meeting other households, for informal exercise or sport.

Indoor sports facilities are closed.

Outdoor gyms can remain open.

Outdoor non-contact sports such as golf and fishing are permitted for all age groups.

Sports organisations will need to refer to guidance produced by their Scottish Governing Body of Sport and ensure they operate in line with the guidance.

This was on SGA website from before the latest announcement

Members in Tier 4 need to be aware of the following change.

As of Friday 20th November shooting will No longer be exempt from socialising restrictions in Level 4 areas.  This means that shooting activities may only take place with up to a maximum of 6 people from no more than 2 house holds.

Doesn’t look good!!

Buggeration!  I hadn't picked up on that Dave.  Similar words on the BASC website in the Scotland Coronavirus section.  "Shooting is no longer exempt from socialising restrictions in Tier 4 areas. This means that shooting activities may only take place with up to a maximum of 6 people from no more than 2 households."

Not looking good as game shooting is not allowed in tier 4 in England and no travelling in or out of tier 4

from basc For england

Tier 4 restrictions

From Sunday 20 December new Tier 4 rules will be in force for London, the south-east and east of England.

BASC’s initial interpretation for shooting in Tier 4 areas is as follows:

Outdoor recreational shooting remains permissible in Tier 4 areas subject to two conditions. Firstly, you should only travel locally to shoot. Secondly, when shooting you should only meet with people you live with, your support bubble, or with one other person.

In light of these conditions BASC does not consider that driven game shooting or other recreational group shooting activities should take place.

Taking part in recreational shooting is not a reasonable excuse to enter or leave a Tier 4 area.

Shooting-related essential work is permitted in Tier 4 areas and it is a reasonable excuse to travel to carry out that essential work. This includes essential bird and mammal pest control to protect crops or livestock such as the shooting and trapping of pest bird species under general licence; the management of rodents and rabbits; deer management as part of a plan agreed with and requested by the landowner; and game management or gamekeeping activities such as looking after game birds, pest/predator control and habitat management.

So, you can you  go wildfowling as long as its close to your home and you are not moving through different counties .

And its preferable that you do this on your own ?

Trying to squeeze as much in just now as our lockdown starts on boxing day 00:01 in N.Ireland. So fished for rainbow and banged off a few rounds of fullbore at hardox targets this afternoon on the hill. Clay pigeons pencilled in for Xmas Eve.
